How much do you need to write for both sections a and b on of mice and men. Would really like a high grade in english lit but often run out of time - starting to panic a bit as the exam is tomorrow.

For Part A, you are limited to what the passage gives you. You could have a great passage, you could have a terrible one. For Part A, I usually write about 1-1.5 pages.
For part B, depending on the question (One I did the other day was about Hierarchy on the ranch) I wrote about 3 pages for it.

Methods include Structure, language, imagery etc.
Basically all the techniques at Steinbeck's disposal as a writer, that he can use portray his message.
I hope thats helpful and good luck for tomorrow!

The question is asking what techniques is Steinbeck using to get a particular reaction from the reader or to portray his messagel.
