This has probably been asked loads of times before, but do you think you're less likely to get a place at Oxford if you apply to Lincoln as there are so few places available for most subjects?

Reply 163

Nah.

Unless there are a ridiculous number of applicants per place, I can't see your chances being affected greatly.

im thinking of applying to Lincoln for PPE. it says on the web site that there are 10 places for it, must be less competitive i suppose. Is anybody taking this course? Whats it like in Lincoln?

Hi Dasha.dy, sorry no-one's replied to you yet. Unfortunately there's aren't any linconite PPE-ists on this board so we can't give really help your question about the course.

I wouldn't imagine that Lincoln is any less competitive than other colleges. If a college has more places for a subject, then more applicants will probably apply there! I know our PPE-ists have been doing quite well in recent years and those in my year who have just finished at Lincoln all seemed very happy with their tutors etc. Don't pick a college based on it's applicants:redface:ffers ratio - if you're good enough to get into Oxford then it doesn't matter what college you apply to as you can always get an offer from another college if the college you picked is over-subscribed with good applicants. So if you like the look of Lincoln (and who wouldn't  ) then apply there.

If you have any non-specific PPE question's about life at Lincoln, then post here and one of us Lincolnite's will try and answer them for you.

Hi, Hoofbeat! Thanks a lot for your answer !! Oh well i do like Lincoln as a College and I thinks this would be my choice. Probably you are right, this big number of places might be more competitive aspect on the other side. Anyway, will try my best.

Because Lincoln is a smaller college does that make it easier or more difficult to get into? I've had conflicting advice about the college size and number of acceptances: some people have told me it's best to go for the richer bigger colleges, others say the smaller ones are the way to go. Advice?

Reply 178

It's about the same.
