African-American music is an umbrella term covering a diverse range of musics and musical genres largely developed by African Americans. ***** spirituals, blues, ragtime, jazz, boogie woogie, rhythm and blues, doo-wop, rock & roll, soul, funk, disco, hip hop, house, and techno constitute the principal modern genres of African-American music. Their origins are in musical forms that arose out of the historical condition of slavery that characterized the lives of black Americans prior to the American Civil War.

How come they all come from America and not Africa then?

They say they're Black but I disagree too many must have European roots and influence.

Ugh what? They are African American or Blacks born in America. African Americans have other ancestry it's just the nature of the country. How does African American music have European influence when we actually INVENTED the genre???? With the exception of country, every other major genre of America music was invented by black people including Rock-n-Roll, Pop and Disco 3 very famous genres which were stolen by white Americans and marketed as such.

African Americans are credited with inventing the following genres...
