Currently on a gap year as I didn't receive any offers for medicine when I applied last year, I'm now planning on applying for chemistry at Edinburgh and various other places.
I achieved AAB at A2 and 5A*s and 6As in my GCSEs, do I stand a good chance of receiving an offer for MChem? The rejections from medical schools seriously knocked my confidence resulting in the lower A2 grades (i was predicted A*AA).

Going to apply to the Fine Arts course at Edinburgh. Do you think I stand a chance with my results below? I'm also an international student studying in the UK, so perhaps my international background could make me stand out?
IGCSE: 4a*, 4a's (essentially a total of a combination of 8a*/a), 2b's, 1c (for science)
IB predicted score: 37 (predicted 2 core points)
Also, does anyone know what its like to study Fine Arts at edinburgh? thanks x

I've heard the teaching is quite traditional?

Ok this worries me haha, in also applying for English lit but I only have BBC, I'm resitting the C to hopefully get an A but even so, I'm not sure that's enough? I mean they say the typical offer is ABB-BBB? Which I think I can do

I hate to tell you this but the typical offer is AAA ( with students who have a strong set of GCSEGrade A*) ABB is the MINIMUM entry requirement - and usually given to people with special circumstances. Ie; they will reject you automatically if you don't have this or are predicted to get this.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't apply as Edinburgh are quite keen on students with a really good PS but as this is a high demand subject you need to be realistic about your chances

good luck

Has anybody submitted their application yet? I'm on a gap year so I've had time to prepare everything... really eager to send it off! Is there anything negative about sending it in already?

I'm on a gap year as well and I sent my application in mid-September since I just couldn't wait any longer. I had finished the application well before the applications could be sent.
I don't think there is anything negative about sending it much earlier than the January or October(for medicine and vet. med.) deadline. The universities will have more time to process your application if you send it earlier, however, universities such as Edinburgh usually reply with offers once the deadline is past. So, in the end, it doesn't really matter when you send the application as long as it is before the deadline(s).

Ok thank you! Thanks for being honest, I do know that I'm being a little ambitious but I just love the university and the city so much, I think I'll definitely visit again but for now I'm setting my sights a bit lower.. Appreciate the honesty 💗
Well, I feel like I should join in then... Sent off my application last Friday for Economics and Politics. I fell in love with the city and the university when I visited, really do hope to get an offer.

I'm not in a gap year but I sent off my application last Friday  I really can't imagine why would there be anything wrong with sending it in a bit early...

Edinburgh is so gorgeous! I went to the open day the weekend before last and I was honestly so in love with it. I'll be so heartbroken if I don't get an offer too :sadnod:

Hello everybody! It is my dream to study in Edinburgh. I am from Estonia so it is hard to match my qualifications but so far all of my grades throughout high school have been A's. I attend a private school in which A is equivalent to 96% and more. I have also participated in several regional and national olympiades, last year I took 2 courses from Estonia's top university and this year I am taking 4.
I have booked a CAE test for the 4th of December, which I am incredibly nervous for...

I have no idea how the decision will be made as by 15th of January I have nothing to show, so to say. But I will be very heartbroken if I don't get an offer.

Any other international students here?

Sadly I had to book a private visit in July because I don't live in the UK and most of the other open days where around that period... Anyway, it is a wonderful city and I really liked the "university vibe" y'know? It looks like a huge uni but with a sort of close community.

What course are you going to apply/already applied for?

I am interested in Linguistics/Social Anthropology joint honours but it is a tricky one as no other Scottish unis offer that combination and I don't know how to write a personal statement if the other courses which are for backup are not the exact same ones. If I decide to give up the "one choice only" plan I would choose Comparative or English Lit and apply to all of the same courses in different unis. What about you?

Sounds like very interesting. As for applying to different courses, are there some similar ones? I realise how tricky it is to combine different courses in one Personal Statement as I had to struggle with it myself for the last three months! I applied for Economics and Politics btw

Did anybody mention both Linguistics and being an EU student? Oh my god hi
I'm hoping to study straight History (MA) and have been gazing at the course outline longingly. I think I may be getting ahead of myself.

National 5: AAAAAAAA
Highers: AAAAA (English, French, History, Maths, Modern Studies)

I'm taking three Advanced Highers this year (English, History and Mod Studs) as well as Higher Philosophy. Hoping for an unconditional offer, but you never know

Curios whether Edinburgh is the first choice for all you guys? For me it is, as I think I'll only apply for Scottish unis, (Did consider Durham but don't know if it's worth it) even though Edinburgh doesn't necessarily specialise in History - it just looks like a fantastic place to study and the city is awesome!

Edinburgh is my first choice too! 😁 I don't think it's worth going to an English uni when you can get your fees paid for you and Edinburgh is just as good and it's in a beautiful city. I'm hoping to do chemistry but I think it's quite competitive.
