does anyone know what the odds are for magdalen changing its policy for 2007-2008 and participating in the princeton exchange?

I would guess that they would be very low as I'd imagine that it's something that colleges build up a tradition of doing rather than suddenly randomly deciding to do. That being said, I'm guessing despite a complete lack of evidence. The only way to find out is to ask the college yourself.

Yay, Magdalen ! I'll be starting PPE here in October and I was wondering if any current student with experience of the Waynflete building could tell me if it is as ugly on the inside as it appears to be on the outside.

Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm planning on applying to read GEP Medicine at Magdalen for 2008 and just wondered if anyone has info (e.g. stats, approach, interview style etc) on Magdalen for GEP'ers.

Cheers

I saw it on the inside during my interview - it's a little dull, but fairly cosy, and a lot nicer than some of the first year rooms I've seen in other colleges.

Sounds good--so much for my premature pessimism!
It also seemed very friendly, with much scope for "bonding" - the people I knew who stayed there seem to make many more friends, possibly since the rooms are very close together so it's easy to bump into people in the corridors.

My room was a third year room in Grove Buildings at the end of a huge corridor - there was very little company there except for the deer outside the window

That's where my room was during the PPE interviews (maybe we had the same one? Did your's over look the Deer Park?), as you say a bit lonely--though I think they all were ensuite, which was obviously convenient
It did! It was on the ground floor, and I think it was D1:4, but I may be wrong. I became very jealous of the Waynfleteites when I realised I had no idea who else was staying on that staircase because I never seemed to bump into them - I sometimes heard voices coming from the rooms and thought about knocking and saing hello, but was too shy

The ensuite bathroom and the charming deer did make up for this though! As did being right next to the auditorium.

I think my favourite thing about Magdalen, however, is the slightly homoerotic statue in Cloisters which is next to the window outside the JCR...

haha...somehow I missed that! Did you end up going in the auditorium? They were supposed to show a film there the first night and so we all showed up and were waiting around for a while for it to start. This girl and I decided to look around a little and when we got back everyone had left (they couldn't get the sound working or something so they ended up showing it in the JCR).
What was semi-awkward though was that there was a kind of pentagonal gated area between the entrance to the auditorium and the entrance to the inner part of college, the doors of which could only be opened with some sort of swipe card. Obviously, neither of us had a swipe card so we were stuck outside in the freezing cold for at least 10 minutes until a current student showed up and let us out of the mini-pentagonal-cage-thing. That serves as my one memory of the auditorium!

You get the swipe card once you've got your A levels  It's called a bod card and gives you access to all sorts of wonderful places such as the post room, computer rooms and even the Wayneflete.

For my interviews I had a very nice set in Longwall. Unfortunately I won't be getting anything in that league next year as I came near the bottom in the rooms ballot... Bugger.

Yes, I saw Shaun of the Dead in it.

Do all the freshers end up living in the Wayneflete building or are some allocated elsewhere?
Reply 14
About 3/4 live in the flete. The other quarter live in houses on the High Street all of which are within 25m of the college.

Cool, thanks.

Woo! I have my room for next year and it's a two room set inside the college! I'm very pleased with that considering that I came 3/4 of the way down the 1st year ballot and so was behind almost everyone in the college when it came down to picking.

Chaplains III:8 went and had a look at it after a maths class and I am pleased :-)

Funny, I have a memory of the auditorium which is almost exactly the same as yours that occurred when I was up for interviews too! I have a feeling lots of people struggled with that cage area! And yes, it was freezing!

did you get locked in too, then? I'm just glad I wasn't by myself...
