Can anyone break down the social policies for education please?
Also, any predictions for what will come up for this year?

Sorry you've not had any responses about this. Are you sure you’ve posted in the right place? Posting in the specific Study Help forum should help get responses.

I'm going to quote in Puddles the Monkey now so she can move your thread to the right place if it's needed. :yy:

Ah, i have this exam tomorrow, I'm a little scared. As for your question,

The Forster Act of 1870 created schools for 5-11 year olds that were independant of churches.

The Education Act of 1944 allowed free secondary schooling for all and raised the leaving age to 15. This also saw the creation of the 11+ exam which was a way of 'filtering' children into grammar, modern or technical schools.

Labour abolished this system in 1964 as they wanted equal access to resources for all.

The 1988 Educational Act saw the marketisation of schools, as well as the national curriculum and standardised testing. This happened under Thatcher.

1997 Education Policy under New Labour encouraged 'streaming' and 'setting' students. Tony Blair made educational reform one of his top priorities. Academies were created in deprived areas. Capitol is now channeled to underprivileged areas to attract teachers with the promise of higher salaries.

Hope this helps a little, good luck on your exam!
