'I have a dream' for Deutsche Bank

Hello guys. I just got an offer from Cambridge Economics. Since I am interested in a career in IB, I want to give a shot to this summer internship. Has anyone done it?If so, have you got any tips?also how much do you get paid overall for this summer internship? And are there actually top notch students applying, so that the competition is tough?Seeing the profiles on windsor fellowship website, I didnt really see that great people.

thanks

There have been threads on this before but we've let them drop off so people didn't find out about things

4 weeks at DB is going to be good no matter really what you do. Being at a bank for the summer is going to be of more benefit than just messing around with your mates. A few people here have been on it before, dig up some of the olds threads if you need. The students there do have a decent range of results and all are definitely above average. It is paid but I was told how much in confidence so

You should be more concerned about gaining relevant experience vs money at this stage. well done on your offer.

Ethnic Minority - Only Asian or Black from the UK.
ahh.....why? have they been accused of racism in the past or somthing?
lots of places do these ethnic minority based courses...

Ill drag up something LBC wrote a while ago;

LBC213
May be so, but institutions like investment banks have an elitist, white male dominated, old boys network image which they are trying to dispell in the media and in the general pubilc, and offering internships to young ethnic minorities is a sure fire way to show they offer equal opportunities etc etc. Banks couldn't give a toss about who works for them as long as they make money, but there are also a lot of ethnic minorities in banks who are extremely succesful and so they are trying to spot talent early and banks are generally becoming more and more image concious (hence the sacking of bankers who go to strip clubs..).

lots of Banks do stuff like this, GS had an A level programme day a while ago for minorities, ML do a 2 week course in NY and MS have a week long work experience both for minority A2 students.

I think its kinda unfair but as my mums Asian i'm not complaining :/

Nope, it's just what a Windsor Fellowship is. The BoE and others offer them. It was a government scheme, of some sort, IIRC.

You raise an interesting point. How did you come to that conclusion?

I too have checked out their profiles and most of the kids have excellent credentials and extra-curricular acitivies but, from their pictures alone, none of them really gave the impression of being 'great', for want of a better word. I'm not really talking about their aesthetic appearance or anything...but sometimes some people exude something about them that gives them that extra-edge, as it were.

I'm not really sure what I'm talking about but can anyone see where I'm going with this?

no it is just unis they are applying to arent that great. there was like one who is applying for LSE economics and then one for cambridge, but for modern languages, which isnt hard to get in. I am half ethnic minority as well. It is not their photos. I felt like their profiles was kinda written in a **** way. Like one is trying to make it sound kool and says 'Russell Group university, UCL or something'. couldnt he just say UCL. It is just i feel i can get in. I am good for that sort of stuff, especially interviews(yer cambridge interview baby). But yer can you give me any tips on how to make my application stronger?

It wasn't hard to notice layman grammatical mistakes in some of what they had written, but given that they got in and competition was fierce (apparently), you have to give them some credit.

It doesn't seem hard to get in but I'm not really sure of the competition; to make your application stronger just avoid silly mistakes and stress how much you love Deutsch Bank but don't climb up their ass - there is a distinctive difference between subtle compliments and ass-licking. Former is good. Latter is a big no-no.

To be frank, there's not much I can say without knowing your background. Of course, the more EC's and the better your grades the merrier your application will be. A strong foundation and great interview then you're in with a very good chance. Good luck, chum.

Incidentally does anyone know how post-application steps will proceed? Is it like your usual interview followed by an AD or is it something else? Cheers.
Its an interview and test I think. I don't know if the profiles were written by the kids or the people that do the website summing them up using their applications so don't judge them completely by what they say.

lol. I think your offer has made you a bit of a cocky bastard, True, it is an excellent achievement, and you have put yourself in a strong position to get into IB. However, I wouldnt underestimate people because they didnt go to Oxbridge/LSE. Im pretty sure there are alot of oxbridge graduates who have become good successful bankers, but also lots of graduates from places outside the top 3 who have become 'great' bankers.

I did this scheme last summer (2006) and with regards to the competition to get a place, they told us that 450 people initially applied, 400 got a first interview, 140 through to the second interview and they then accepted 28 people.

Wow that is a huuge difference between the number of people interviewed between the 1st and 2nd rounds. Why do you think that is? I'm thinking most of the kids didn't have a clue of IB or they didn't match up to the calibre of their applicaton form, or perhaps even both.

Care to elaborate on what the interviews entail? Is it first one like your usual competency-based interview and the latter involving group tasks etc.? Cheers.
