Simple maths question

Hey guys. In order to find the median of some data we must in some cases use the formula n+1 divided by 2.

When do we use simply n divided by 2 on its own?

When we are working out the upper quartile lower quartile and median on a frequeny graph

No idea
All i know is median is n+1/2 and for frequency its n/2
