Need help concentrating

I have a problem. I can't concentrate. This isn't me being lazy. I try very hard to concentrate but it doesn't work. I either do something like figgit, talk to my conscience or just do something else.

I tried everything. From exercising, drinking coffee or to revising straight after i wake up.

Nothing works. Anyone got ideas?

I'd like to hear some as well mate, I'm exactly the same. Drives me absolutely barmy. Even if it's something I'm generally interested in, I still can't focus. I'm taking those fish oil tablets to try and help...:s-smilie:

Ginkgo Biloba? I'm not saying that it workds, I've never tried it, but it's the only thing that springs to mind other than the obvious, which I assume you've done to no avail.

Im the same as OP and Bunthulhu, but i've been experimenting and i've found that a can of red bull and 1 pro plus helps a lot... ok it does sound like a complete caffeine overload but it does really help me.

!!!TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Get some self discipline, put some music on (stops you drifting off into your own thoughts for some reason) and make yourself study. Give yourself no other option, set a goal - ie you have to finish this book and then you can have a break, or you'll study for 3 hours and then rest for 1. You need to be able to control what you're doing though, to stop yourself drifting off or watching the telly, and that needs self-discipline.

Caffeine and any other additives are really not the way to go, you are able to concentrate without using a drug, you just need to do it properly.

Get away from all distractions and learn some self-disipline. Take regular breaks.

Apparently you're only meant to work in half hour intervals or something like that?

Which is fine if you've got a year to study for one exam... :p: I've had 14 hours of study with only a half hour break before (8am till 10pm), its not fun, but if its necessary you'll have to do it. I've found working for 3 or 4 hours and then a break seems to be about right for me, obviously it will depend on what you can handle.

matt@internet: You just have to have the self-control to force yourself to do it, theres little else that will make a difference. Tell yourself that you have to do it, stop yourself giving up and just keep at it.

Edit: Oh and TSR is a revision-killer, you need to turn the computer off or at least pull the internet cable out before you start. Its far too easy to think 'Ill just refresh this...' and before you know it you've spent an hour refreshing. TSR must be responsible for the majority of underachievement in this country.
