A pod is a small, compact mini ensuite thats actuall in your room. They arent bad really, but its not quite as big as a proper ensuite tho.
If you are still confused etc i could get you a pic or something.

Ok, I'll go unpack my camera.

Here you go. As you can see, they aren't imaculate- but better than no ensuite in my oppinion. The "proper" ensuites in Solsury are much newer, but the pods do their job. Hope it helps.

Here's a solsbury en-suite, its £88 a week now though & will probs rise again next year coz loads of people apply for it.

I heard that westwood won't be en-suite next year? that they are removing the pods? is that true?
And how far is Solsbury/Marlborough from the the uni (read physics dep,:p: )
Does anyone have pictures of the sol/marlb. rooms/kitchens?

Thanks:smile:

I know they've removed the pods from 1 or 2 blocks already.. not sure how many more they're going to do before next year.

Here's a map of the uni http://www.bath.ac.uk/maps/campusmap.html
all the accommodation blocks & departments are marked, but it only takes me 5mins to walk to 8 west which is the other end of the campus from Solsbury.

I'll take some pics of the kitchen later (it's actually clean for once as people only got back yday).. may have some of my room aswell, its rather messy atm so I need to tidy (which i'll probably do tom as I'm avoiding revision :p:)

In the Bath prospectus it lists different room types that are available:

"En-suite shower or Westwood studio" £82-£84.50

"En suite 'pod'" £76.00

What's the difference? What exactly is a "pod"??? :s-smilie:

There are two different types of pod rooms aswell. The studio which is the dearer is an "en suite pod" but it also has a kitchen. However there is only one of these per house and I think priority of them go to people with disabilities or something.
You are a student after all and I'd go for the pod again as you cave so much money compared to solsbury, i wouldn't be picky about the size etc.
And yup, they have converted at least one of the westwood blocks, I don't know what they are doing about the rest though. They basically took out the pods and replaced them with a plasma TV from what I've heard and then turned the "studio" rooms into showers and toilets.

I beleive the de-podding is happening in one block per year. They did quantock last summer, i think its quarry next summer but not sure.

Mm. I dont know why they are getting rid of all the pods. Seems a shame. Most of them are ok really. I like my pod.

Depends which bit of westwood you're in, I have friends in conygre (which are houses) and some in quarry (which are corridors along the whole floor). The kitchens in conygre are much bigger than the one I've seen in quarry, and I think the rooms may be slightly bigger aswell, but they're the same price & you don't get to choose which westwood block you end up in (I think).

Bath's accommodation looks so much nicer than other unis I've seen...I'm strongly considering putting it as my firm choice now
Reply 18
yes, it looks really nice! and the solsbury kitchen is huge for 7 people!?!

I heard that they were doing half for next year and half for the year after that. I'm in Derhill and absolutely love my pod to bits, I hate not having a toilet at the end of my bed at home. Plus you get to take forever in the shower without housemates moaning. Well my do but that's because they're waiting for me for lectures!
