A raised collar will make no difference to the aesthetics of a person. I believe they do so to seem 'hard'.

not a good look

my friends and fiance do it to look hard i think thats chav school girls, but they do it to look good. Victoria beckham always wears her collar up and she looks good. It looks good on women but men look dumb.

well thought out answer

I don't like it. Too much hanging around with girly chavs in my year put me off. I just think it looks silly now

It sounds incredibly rah/yah/sloaneyish, but my ex used to do this with my school rugby shirt (on her, not me).

I thought it was actually quite sexy, bizarrely enough.

Some men can pull it off, but very few in my experience.

Let's just say that either sex wearing their collar up does not make for a good first impression with me. If they actually turn out not to be a tit then the pleasant surprise might work in their favour though

Only Eric Cantona may wear his collar up. Nobody else.

Reply 9

I turn it up if the sun is on my neck-that's all. It used to be funny at school assembly, we'd be standing with our backs to the sun and everyone would put their collars up

Ricky ponting sometimes puts his collar up while batting....

Excellent answer  Took the words right out of my mouth.

I like the look if I'm wearing a round neck jumper with it, and if I don't it just looks silly. Not with normal shirts though.

i think it looks good on both sexes if done in a preppy way - horrible on both sexes if done in a chav way.

Reply 14

Can look good, on certain people
But then, certain people can look good in anything.

Yeah i think that! My bf does it all the time, as does all his school friends (both sexes), but they are all 'rah rah' type people so it suits them...lol! If that makes sense!

Loads of people at my old school did it to look 'hard' as someone earlier said. In the broader sense, I think it looks good with polo shirts but shirts are more difficult to get it right with cos sometimes it looks as though you're about to put on a tie. (edit: haha I just read something I posted in October about how to wear a shirt and I suggested sticking the collar up so maybe I should shut up)
It's weird, isn't it, how the same trend has been adopted by completely opposite groups of people?

Reply 18

I "pop" my collar when I'm wearing my Ralph Lauren polo tees or ruggers tops for a lazy day in the canterburys..(i dont play rugby, just support).

I think it's pretty hot, worn correctly of course.
