American Sixth Form Student in the UK?

Hi, so I'll be spending 3 months in the UK as a sixth form student, year 13 I believe. I've requested to have a host family in Manchester or Staffordshire out of the list of locations I was provided from my study abroad program as they are closest to London. I'm just wondering what to expect from Sixth Form? Whats the social life like? I'll be turning 18 so im hoping it'll be fun. Also would I have time to work on my UCAS apps?
Thanks!
Hello Sixth form is great I hear! Wait how come you applied to the UK? Are you only here for Year 13 or want to go uni here? What subjects do you take

Firstly as things go Manchester and Staffordshire aren't that close to London. Manchester from what I hear is still a great city though- lots going on but crucially cheaper than London. Staffordshire isn't so well known- bit of a mixed bag really in terms of how nice it is. In terms of subjects I've heard of some sixth forms offering Astronomy after school, its not that common though and I've never heard of a school offering Oceonography. Normally its Physics, Biology and Chemistry which are offered with some places offering Human Biology and Environmental Science. Again not heard of just Film Production being offered, its usually film studies which has theory as well I believe. And Government and Politics is usually offered.

As for what to expect, it really depends on the school/college/teachers. Some are more relaxed with 6th formers than others- dress for 6th form varies- some schools still have school uniform, others smart business dress, others wear what you like. You can expect regular homework- mini essays typically for the subjects you've said except maybe Science which might have more short q's.
Remember year 13 is the second year of 6th form so work will build on what was taken in year12 so don't be suprised if you are a bit lost at first.

As far as social life goes, in year 13 house parties are common, as is going to the pub and going clubbing as students turn 18, or sometimes before with fake ID depending on the students.

You don't major in a UK university. You declare your major in a certain specialised subject before you apply to university via ucas because it is very difficult to do a vast mix of subjects in a UK BA degree. I'm applying for film production and I recommend that you look at the Arts University Bournemouth.
Hope it helps! :h:

BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY is not very good. The arts insitiue is much, much better and more specialist. I'm not into clubbing but bournemouth is one of the best clubbing scences in the UK.

degrees here are specialised straight away so you dont do a variety of subjects at uni but you can do modules in different subjects (they wont be listed in your overall degree) you can also do joint degrees

sixth form here really depends where you go,some people are too serious about their education to care about having a social life while others are the opposite

anymore questions feel free to ask x

im not particularly sure about film studies (i want to do dentistry) but this is a website that gives you statistics about every course in the UK at each uni including drop out rate, male/female ratio, average UCAS points achieved at a level, student satisfaction, employability etc

ive just typed in film studies for you heres the link:

http://university.which.co.uk/search/course?c[q]=film%20studies

press the course for stats on the course and the uni for stats on the uni
