Multipath Dispersion/Fibre Optics?!Watch
Could someone please explain to me what multipath dispersion is...? In simple terms like a definition...? Also, how do you prevent it? I've read that doing something to the refractive index of the cladding and width of the core does something but I don't know what 😭 And is it better for the critical angle in fibre optics to be higher or lower and why?
I know there are loads of questions in there... Sorry 😁
Replies are much appreciated. Dreading this exam!
The width of the core limits the amount of incident angles the light can travel down the fibre at, so limiting the different paths it can take and reducing any time difference.
Having a higher critical angle also has this effect - this reduces the range of angles a beam of light can be incident at inside an optical fibre in order to be totally internally reflected, so reducing the amount of different paths, etc.
Hopefully this helps
