How long to loose 15kg.

After having spent Christmas and New Year's eating like many others, I realized I have put on weight by 5 kg and now I feel like a nightmare. I was 85kg, height 1.73 now I'm 90 kg and I feel I have crossed the limits. How long could it take to loose 15 kg (to be at my ideal weight) if I were to go on the most strict diet possible?

If you've never dieted before then it could come of quickly. but if you yo yo your gonna have to work. start working out and cut your calories alot. you need apparently 800 to survive but it's up to you. cutting out starchy carbs too, bread, pasta, rice, pastery that kinda stuff shoudl help too.

Add alot of protien to your diet since it takes alot more calories burned to digest protien than carbs.

Also if you drink, i would stop drinking because it will just hinder your progress.

eating 800 cals a day is pathetic, it's no-where near enough to keep you going. if I ate that little, I'd be dead by now :p:

The average Jo/e Bloggs needs 1200 to survive. More for males. Unless you've been reccomended less by a dietician, always stick to that much or more.

Your body needs carbs to live, simply. Otherwise, you'd get stuck in a bad sugar rush/sugar withdrawal cycle from no slow-releasing sugars.

Aim to exercise 3 - 5 hours a week, and do little things like walk places instead of drive, try to take regular walks anyhow, go up stairs instead of lifts/escalators.

Really, if you're wanting to lose that much, you should speak to your doctor. They'd either be able to suggest some healthy ideas, or reccomend you to somebody who knows a little more.

Rather than do some faddy diet that cuts vital food (and you'll probably end up gaining when you start eating properly anyhow), try to work out what you're eating and how to cut down.

Make sure you're still eating 5 - 6 times a day, with a balance of everything. Having a chocolate bar or 2 biscuits isn't bad at all, as long as you can balance it out with something like a tuna/egg salad and an apple for lunch, or something similar. Don't cut out any foods, instead just enjoy moderation. Allow yourself everything that you want, but if you normally have a whole bar of chocolate, give yourself half a bar instead. Or buy those mini bars. Make sure you eat breakfast, most important meal of the day.

Main rule: Drink. Drink water as much as you can, about 2l a day should be enough.

Also, as somebody else said, aim for about 1kg a week, and don't start obsessivly weighing yourself. One day a week at the same time.

However, I still reccomend seeing the doctor before you start on any lifestyle changes.

Two words: Slimming World.

My adopted/surrogate mum type has lost loads of weight with Slimming World, she's literally half the woman she used to be. By comparison, my actual mum has tried weight watchers and is now the biggest she's ever been, because she didn't stick to the points thing.

Plus Slimming World is fairly easy to understand, and is a way of learning to eat sensibly and healthily, it's not just about losing the weight.

Excercise always helps too. It is also advisable to see the GP, just to check things over and to decide on a suitable & healthy target weight.
Don't weigh yourself every day because it takes a while for the weight to come off (It seems to me about one week after I start-or if i've been overeating at xmas-one week later than that too!).If you do then you may become disheartened and may give up.
Drink lots of water too and try to eat slowly-enjoy each mouthful (this, according to Paul MacKenna, works!) and you should fill up faster. Exercise more too.
As the festive season is over and the weather will start to get warmer (few months...) your body should naturally require less food anyways and you will probably want less comfort food. Try snacking on fruit too.
Good Luck.

Ok I'm having a bit of a problem. I try to eat little, but I always keep getting really hungry and don't know how to fill up my stomach. Today I had some noodles, very little in quantity, and ate two bananas and was still feeling very hungry. Also is it bad to have a meat-sort of dish and night time? What should I really be eating to help me loose?

This is why you should speak to your doctor, or go to a proper diet place.

The average person NEEDS 1200 kcal a day to live - you should really be eating breakfast, lunch, dinner & two to three snacks a day.

There aren't any specific foods that you eat to lose. Just eat less and exercise more.

If you're getting really really hungry, it's probably a sign that you need to eat more.
I think , you should eat until ur full , just do more exercise , running , rowing and maybe some cycling , dont just eat less coz u will end up binge eating....

I highly recommend you to read this article - don't worry its not too long!

The article has 5 basic tips, with reasoning as to why you should do/shouldn't do certain things. I hope it helps you to an extent.

Thanks for those tips. I'll try them and if I have any doubts I'll be back .
It doesnt matter if you eat hamburgers all day or celery. Its calories in food that matter, the actual energy value. Eat less than you burn in a day and you'll lose weight. It really is as simple as that.

More excersize means you'll be burning more energy and that means you'll lose the weight faster.

I lost 4.5kg at an average weight loss of 200g a day. That was on a 1200 calorie a day intake, along with light excersize each day. Sorted.
