I paid about that much at Chichester, in catered, en suite halls. It is a lot, but it's just something we learnt to get on with.

It is a lot, am paying around £125 currently but it's for a deluxe room, larger room, double bed and en-suite, single en-suite in the building is around £118 week. Next year I'll be paying £172 a week but that's for a studio in halls. The price you got is expensive but still cheaper than halls in London.

That's really quite expensive! I'm paying £140 a week, outside London and I think that's a hell of a lot!

That's really expensive! :O

Universities really need to bring their halls rent prices down to be more affordable to the students that are already paying them £9000 a year.

Wonder if the NUS should get in on this and really pressure universities to do so. Might be a good article for someone to do actually - FOI the most expensive halls on where the money goes to? How much does it cost to run the halls vs income, where does the excess income go?

the redecoration and maintenance bill for some halls is astronomical.
A bunch of freshers causes the heck of a lot of damage.

Most uni's have outsourced their management to external companies to save money.

although some halls are occupied by conferences in the vacations, you need to assume that the money covers 50 weeks of the year, rather than 35 or so

Ridiculous price. All of Brighton Accomodation is. I have a place confirmed at Essex. It's in a flat. I share a huge kitchen (really big) with 14 people. I share a shower & 2 toilet rooms with 7 people.

Yeah it sounds scummy but that's only the communal areas and you'll get used to it. You can still keep your room tidy. Plus the huge benefits of sharing with so many people is that it is so damn sociable. Sharing/knowing 16 people?!!! There will be someone new to go out clubbing with every night.

I pay £75 per week for this. Self catered, obviously not en suite. Free internet etc etc etc

Wtf! That is a ridiculous amount. I lived in self catered (in Edinburgh, which is apparently expensive) for £90 a week, and tbh I would say anything over £100 a week is pricey and £110 just not worth it in my city for freshers - but it might vary.

Your price is just obscene!

That's very expensive, mine last year were £98 for a self-catered single room with shared bathroom and gym membership.

A lot of unis are getting higher spec halls but this comes at a price. If it's too expensive try looking into private halls!

That's seems pretty expensive to me..

Mine is either £98 or £100, non-ensuite shared flat and self-catered. Ensuite at the uni is still only £125 which I thought was expensive enough. I guess Glasgow must just be a cheaper city to live in
