It will hurt, you will scream and then die.

But really, no, it doesn't hurt, and I'd imagine your mum can probably come with you.

Reply 2

Its less painful than pinching yourself, it lasts for about a second and then its over.

Reply 3

it depends on the nurse doing it, if shes good you will barely feel it, dont look when she/he does it and it will lessen the feeling, after that yount feel it though if they leave the blood collector tube your fingers will start feeling funny.

and yes your mom can come in with you, have her hold your other hand whilst doing it

i am terrified of needles and i find them taking blood from me is sore because they never get it first time

Reply 5

hmm i had a rly good nurse recently and all she said so clench tight so she could locate the vein then keep clenching... tho not *******ally tight so your shaking or anything.

after the initial prick it wont hurt at all. until the needle is being removed when u'll feel it slightly again.

its all quite short really... and after apply pressure to the wound... it'll lessen the chance of you getting bruising there (around 3 mins will do)

I get needles stuck in me for fun :P
Well, I donate, anyway.

The important thing is to relax - if you're really tense, it'll be harder to find a vein and it might take more than one try, which you don't really want, lol. You'll feel the needle go in, but it won't be painful - just a scratch, I guess, and by the time you've registered it it'll be gone.

Oh, and don't look, it makes it worse. Deep breaths are good, and talking - either to the nurse or your mum - will relax you.

I never feel them taking the needle out, but I would imagine if you do, it won't be painful.

And I'm sure your mum can be there, they're hardly going to kick her out of the room

No, but they use a needle.

I find it's a sort of dull, aching pain (as opposed to the sharp kind you'd expect from a needle), but as pains go, it's not bad at all. Depending on how much blood you're having taken - which I think varies with how many tests are going to be done on it, so if it's a test for something specific then it probably won't be much - you may start to feel a bit restless or agitated because the idea of having a needle in your arm feels worse than the actual test. It only takes a matter of seconds though, and yes your mother can stay with you.

i know the feeling...i'm the type that can't even look at a picture of a needle let alone have one in the same room and i had to have my first blood test last week i was petrified and then they said i had hard to find veins which made me worse.
I'm eighteen and my dad had to come in with me and hold my hand while i closed my eyes. the nurse was lovely and even used a baby needle on me cos i was so scared and to be honest it wasn't that bad. trust me ur head is making it much worse than it is

From the title I can say you're 'Isabella' :p: Anyhow, Fear of needles is something that won't go away.. You just have to bite the bullet.

Reply 11

Take an mp3 with you to listen to with loud music on, to distract yourself and subconsciously focus on something else.

Reply 12

defiantely the best advice is not to look and if possible have something to distract you. If at all possible an mp3 player or mobile phone/portable game would be ideal, jsut try and focus on that and not evening think about your other arm. and it will all be over before you know it!

Pffft, ignore all these people trying to reassure you, i went for a blood test the other month and it REALLY REALLY hurt, i hate needles as it is and it was absoloutly aweful. No im not kidding, hurt like a b****.

Reply 14

it hurts when the person doing the bloodtest is a complete idiot!
1) im not supposed to have a blood test, they made a mistake and he realised i wasnt supposed to have a blood test after i have had a needle inserted in my arm
2) he put it in my arm then he couldnt find a blood vessel then he did it 2 times again and finnally on the 3rd attemp he got some blood
3) he comes back and says "we have got the blood results but unfortunately you didnt need a blood test as you only came to hospital for your asthama attack" wtf was i sayin for the past 20 mins!

Reue! tisn't that bad! i had loads of injections & blood testy things etc. a few months ago before i went on World Challenge - i mean loadssssss. like 10 or something ridiculous like that! felt like a pin cushion!
But the blood test isn't that bad - main thing is to just totally relax your arm - cause it wont hurt as much if you do that. if wont hurt loads anyway - its more psychological i think - just stay relaxed and dont worry loads about it and it'll be fine =]. it will hurt a bit when the needled goes in & then it'll be just achey, like pressure on your arm, but its really not majorly awful.

Of course you can take your mum with you!! though you might be better off leaving her in the waiting room cause when i took mine with me she'd sit there flinching & going 'can you feel it?! OMG look at that needle!!' haha =]

seriously: dont worry!!! =] good luckk

See, I'd advise against what some people said and suggest you look at it as it happens. I've had a fair few injections and stuff in my time and I've found that if you watch it happen then you don't feel the "shock" so much because you see it happen - rather than turning away and not knowing!

As for pain, it's honestly not too bad. A small pinch. i'm sure scratching yourself to the point of bleeding on something would hurt more. It'll be alright

Reply 17

When I had my first one I was so worked up and upset (weirdly, because I have piercings and tattoos) that they used a special needle which they use when giving injections to babies, and I hardly felt it.

Though it's just occured to me...Do these needles really exist? Were they actually lying to get me to shut up?

Reply 18

I've had quite a lot of blood tests and can say that some hurt more than others, like someone else said, it depends on how good the nurse is at doing blood tests, but you dont know that until they do it. My latest one hurt like a b****.

I was just telling my own personal experience, and for me YES, it was that bad.
