can't plank or press up, are my arms weak?

so I'm a 17 year old girl, trying to get fitter, not because I am particularly fat, bu because I am physically unfit, I lack strength and stamina.

I am fine with leg lifts, other ab exercises and squats. cardio is difficult, but I can deal with it. However I cannot physically hold a plank for more than 5-10 seconds, and even then I struggle, and I cannot do a single press up.

What can I do to build up my arms? I don't want hench arms or anything, just want to be able to hold a plank, since most girls I know can do so on their first try....

Can you do these push ups instead? Pushups are hard to begin with. The plank is mostly about your core than your arms though, try doing more situps, crunches, leg raises etc.

With stuff like press ups, its literally all about practice. Start doing them on your knees if you need to, and then build up. I couldn't do any either a couple of months ago, but did them almost everyday and now I can do 45 in a row

You should be able to plank for easily more than 5 seconds, maybe your form is incorrect? I think the average for beginners is sound 45 seconds before you start feeling it

I will try this, thank you!
I didn't realise that planks work on your core, so perhaps that is where I need to build up, Is there a particular area, though, that planking targets that leg lifts and crunches don't, because maybe I should just stick to those instead.

Try making a training program , first do a few sessions with light weights gradually increasing the weights you lift each exercise session you do , don't put too much pressure on yourself , you can do it , maybe going to the gym with friends to lift with will help you , you could try boxing as it could build your arm strength , talk to your PE teacher and ask for help , don't give up , good luck and I hope this helped  X

Your overall core strength really, plank is one of the best exercises to increase that. Are you tensing your abs when you do the plank because that should help too. Even if you can only do it for 5-10 seconds, if you do that daily then your time will start going up immediately.

Men naturally will grow some muscles even if they sit around and do nothing all day when puberty hits, so they should be able to do it.

Try putting your hands wider apart to do push ups, it makes them a bit easier to do.

Keep in mind that holding a plank is supposed to be painful if you're really pushing yourself, it's as much about your willpower to hold the plank than your actual core strength.
