How do SOAS inform you +Interviews

I was wondering from the people who have had offers from SOAS how they get in touch with you about it?

Is it worth checking track regularly (obviously I'll find out eventually, but one can't suppress the urge to find out NOW), or is it normal for them to send you a letter or an email out anyway? Never applied to Uni before, so not really sure what to be expecting.

Also I was wondering if anyway knew how often SOAS tends to call people for interviews? I am a mature student (just- will be 21 in June) on an access course , and applying for Japanese, and Japanese and Linguistics.

I expected that they would interview, based off the statement on the website, but a SOAS Sales Rep to my college said they generally dont tend too.

Anyone have any experience on this? Particularly mature students applying for Japanese (common as that is, I am sure:smile:) Interview, then an offer (or rejection), or just offers (or rejections)?

Cheers

I was offered an unconditional offer for Japanese without an interview, though a) I applied in September (and got my offer sometime in November) b) I will not qualify as a mature student. From what I've read on TSR, as well as from personal experience (for those I already know at SOAS) there isn't an interview, or at least I've never heard of any. Finally, I was notified through UCASTrack, and have not received anything through the post. Hope this helps! Ganbatte!

heya, I also applied with an access course, as a non-mature student, but for Chinese. They sent me both an email and a letter informing me of the interview.

As far as I know they only interview "special" cases. Being a mature student doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have to do one; if your application is strong enough then they'll accept you anyway.

best of luck!!!!!

edit: this was last year btw
I was only told through track, no letter, e-mail or anything. They also weren't very clear about what my grades should actually be. I e-mailed them a month ago to ask what my offer actually was and I still haven't heard.

I know SOAS is famous for processing things at snail pace, but actually so far I've been impressed. I got my offer relatively early, and the last time I emailed them they actually replied within 24 hours. Maybe it's a New Year's Resolution; reply to students with enquiries within a decent time space.
When did you apply (OP)? Hope to see you there, i was worried I would be surrounded by hyper 18 year olds (will also be 21 around the time term starts)

You can't swing a cat around the JCR without hitting a load of mature students, some up to the age of 80...
Well yeah there's mature like me (equivalent of 2 gap years) and then theres mature (drooling into their copy of countrylife)

lol, that's nice. Oh well, I went to the open day so I pretty much asked everything I needed to except for things like accomodation application and fresher's week etc.
