Why do men cheat?

I consider myself a fairly secure person, and I'd never keep my boyfriend under the thumb or try to control his life in any way, yet I'm always terrified that my lad (whoever it may be at the time) will cheat on me. I've never been cheated on personally (but then I've never been in a relationship for longer than 6 months), and my parents have a strong and faithful marriage, yet I always hear of relationships that break up due to the bloke going astray. One of my friends is even being "the other woman" with a male friend of hers, which I can't say as I approve of but I can't very well seem to prevent her from doing it either.

I don't know why this bothers me so damn much: it's really made me lose faith in having a proper, long-term relationship. Or am I just reading too much Cosmo...

every stray man has different reasons. Some it is jealousy, sexual unsatisfaction, fear of commitment, or some simply no longer feeling the same way. It's impossible to generalise, your parents are in a faithful marriage - many people may live in a broken home where parents are not a strong role model and so its possible to unconciously fall into the habit of cheating. Which is why you might not understand why some men do so, but I would say equally women are capable of such behaviour and its not fair also.

If your worried, try not to fall for bad boys and find yourself a decent guy who will respect you.

Well said, and I'd like to add that women cheat too.

Equally.

Probably for the same reason women cheat!

I can't help but notice the irony in your post. You keep mentioning that men cheat, but as others have already posted, women did it as well! Including your friend!
maybe you should rename your title why do people cheat.

Why have you made this a male-oriented problem? Women cheat as well.

In my last relationship, she cheated on me.

I'd never consider cheating on anyone, personally. I'd like to think I'm quite a faithful and loyal person.

Isn't there some statistic claiming that 10% of men are unknowingly raising someone else's child?
Maybe men just get caught more.
why do women cheat?

You dismissed any explanation relying on evolutionary psychology? Smart stuff.

well, seeing as he knows nothing about psychology, or evolution for that matter, yes. I did dismiss it.
It was a rubbish excuse.

I think it might just be that blokes wouldn't want to admit to themselves or others that they have been cheated on, so they turn a blind eye so as not to loose face. I don't know it was just a theory though.

It's sad that already at this point in life many people, females and male, already see the opposite sex as a danger point in some aspect. Someone who's just going to cheat on them at the end of the day.

You just need to find the right person. You will be hurt no doubt in the process, and sadly there are people out there who just don't feel that cheating is a bad thing. It's sad that society just can't respect the fact people hurt.

Personal I find cheating, low, distasteful and a fact that they're shallow, two faced, insecure *****s. Personal opinion of course. If you're not happy with your partner, tell them and move on. Don't put them through the pain of finding out their partner is cheating on them.

**** off, I'll post what I like. If I remembered where I heard it, I'd say so. And I wouldn't phrase it as a question.

To the above.

That's no reason to CHEAT on someone. A cheat is a coward who can't face the emotions mixed in with hurting someone that much. If you don't care or find your partner boring either try sort it out or just leave! There's no dignity in cheating on someone. Just a immature, small minded shell.
I cheated because I loved them both.
