  • A loss of libido refers to a low-level of sexual desire. A person with this disorder will not initiate and will not respond adequately to the partner's desire for intercourse.
Diminished sex drive can be primary (in which the person has never felt a desire or interest in sexual activity), or secondary (the person has had a period of normal sexual appetite, which went away).
Also, a loss of libido may be connected to the partner, who may be interested in other people, but not in his or her own partner, or general, when the person shows no sexual interest in anyone. Extreme form is sexual aversion, in which the person not only lacks sexual desire, but finds sexual activity to be repulsive.
Sometimes, sexual desire is not diminished. The two partners just have different levels of sexual interest, even if they both fit into normal levels.
There are also people who say that their partner has low libido, when in fact it's them that have an exaggerated, very demanding sexual desire.
    Causes For Loss Of Libido
A low sex drive is a common sexual disorder. It often occurs when one partner does not feel sufficiently close to each other.
Communication problems, lack of affection, the struggle for power and conflicts, and not enough time together are the most frequent factors. A loss of libido can occur in people who have received a very strict sexual education in childhood, have negative attitudes towards sexual activity or suffered traumatic sexual experiences (such as rape, incest or sexual abuse).
Diseases and some medications may contribute to this disorder, especially if it causes fatigue, pain or a general bad condition. Sometimes, low levels of certain hormones may also be the cause. Psychological conditions such as depression or excessive stress can lead to decreased sexual appetite.
Most often ignored factors include insomnia or lack of sleep, which cause fatigue. A loss of libido may be connected with other sexual disorders and it can sometimes be caused by them. For example, a woman who can't have an orgasm or feels pain during intercourse, or a man who has erection problems (impotence) or premature ejaculation can lose interest in sexual activity because they equate it with failure and don't feel well in these situations.
    Treatment For Loss Of Libido
Treatment must be directed towards the factors that decrease sexual interest. Often it can be more than one factor.
Some couples will need therapy or marriage counseling before the couple is able to focus on increasing sexual activity. Other couples will need to learn how to resolve conflicts and differences in the nonsexual areas.
Communication training helps couples learn how to talk to one another, to show empathy, to resolve differences with sensitivity and respect for each others feelings, to learn how to express their anger in a positive way, and to reserve time for activities together, and show affection to each other to encourage sexual desire.
Many couples will have to focus on the sexual relationship more than on the emotional side. Through learning and experimenting together, they will learn how to increase the time they allocate to sexual activity. Some couples will need to learn how to sexually approach their partner in a more interesting way, and how to subtly and delicately refuse a sexual invitation.
Any sexual conditions that inhibit sexual interest, such as sexual impotence, should be treated as soon as possible,
A loss of sex drive is a physical and psychological condition which can effectively be treated through honesty, open communication, patience, and a specialist's advice.

So, what advice do you have for a single woman whose lack of libido get in the way of getting into a relationship? Have had plenty of opportunity for a relationship but my lack of libido causes me to make excuses and end things before they start. What treatment would you suggest for me. I don't really wish to have such a lack of libido but it is what it is....
