who do you mean by mentor? As in your supervisor/educator on a placement or someone in uni?

I depends entirely on what they have (or haven't) done!

Should students make a formal complaint about mentors

it depends.....ifthey've done things wrong and you've tried to sort them otu with no success then yes - but as Sam says it all depends on what they've done

Give us some examples of what they have done and we wil tell you. In the absence of examples how would we know?

I`m guessing this is to do with your mentor on placement. If so then, yes, If you feel that you have not been treated in a professional way (as you outlined in a previous thread) then you have every right to make a complaint.
Do you have to re-take your placement ? I guess you wont be doing this till the hols now, could you see about getting some bank work in the mean time. This would help build your confidence and ability to be a good nurse as well as (if there were any problems on your part) allow you to iron them out before your next placement.

no - the correct practice would have been to talk to their mentor whilst they were on placement and discuss any problems. If they were having no joy they should have gone to the university and had a word with one of their tutors to discuss the issues and perhaps set up a meeting with mentor..................if you haven't done this its not professional to just leap in and automatically put in a complaint against someone unless you've done everything you can to sort it out

yep, that's the procedure we were told to follow if something like that happened to us when we were on placement.

That's what the uni is there for at the end of the day, if they can't sort it out for you I'm not sure what you actually can do.

Yes I am well aware of the procedure, I just thought that the uni (i.e guidence tutor)would have been aware of any problems by now...

do any nursing students feel they are being treated unfairly. for example:
1. staff nurse on duty being rude, unfriendly from the moment go.
2. staff nurse deliberatly getting you in trouble.
3. staff nurse/mentor telling lies to academic staff, other nurses. saying you had abonded patient. when they clearly know that you hadn't.
4. not signing your practice placement documents for what ever reason

as a student your in an akward position in regards to bullying...and i personly refuse to be bullied or intimidated. as a result am being failed on my practice placement document. so i been told; will find out after xmas

yes but I think I remember the OP saying that they hadn't told anyone about their problem.....and that all of this came out AFTER they were told by the uni theywas going to fail the palcement. If you're not oging to follow procedure then you're asking for trouble. Its not on to complain about your mentor after the occasion because its too late by then.
