In any case, if it's on paper i wouldn't worry too much. Was the letter from UCAS or Durham??

It was from the college. I wish track would update though; I've been having horrible "what if it's a cruel and elaborate hoax?" thoughts!

I checked the tracking facility on the Durham site today, and it said my application has been forwarded to a college for consideration (I made an open application).

The acknowledgement letter I received last week said:

"If the department decides you are to receive an offer your application will be forwarded to a college"

Does this mean I'm guaranteed an offer?? Or is it still in the balance...

Thanks guys
What did your acceptance letter say? Word for word.

Sorry I didn't make it clear...I haven't had an acceptance letter, merely an acknowledgement letter which said that if my application was forwarded to a college then it meant I was being offered a place for the course...BUT then the tracking facility on the Durham site itself says:

L200 Politics
Your application has been received by a College
A decision has not yet been made. Please visit the UCAS website for further details

Which sounds altogether less assured...so I was just wondering, have I really been offered a place in all but name, or is it still undecided?

If it gets passed to a college you are guarenteed a place. BUT sometimes Durham track cannot be trusted and lies. So don't celebrate quite yet, wait for it to pop up on UCAS or until you get a nice shiny letter. But well done anyway.

That's not really what it says, though, is it? It says that if you're accepted you'll be forwarded to a college. It doesn't say that if you're forwarded to a college you'll be accepted.

It certainly means they haven't rejected you yet, at least.

Hmm, I suppose :p: Well I can hope at least...

This caused me to check. Mine says the same thing.

I'm taking it as a positive thing  seems like we should get offers as it does say that if they decide to give an offer they'll send to the college. Wahay.

Mines been forwarded to a college for going on 2 weeks now. I wouldn't get too excited. St. Chad's need to make their mind up!
Well we can all hope and pray...

I have a good feeling about it all, though.
I think it's just an acknowledgement letter; you haven't been accepted at all yet.
Hey well done guys! As long as AES doesn't lie to you, then you've got offers I think!

*Is jealous*

Haha, thanks...well I'm sure you'll get one soon enough

Well it doesn't just say "approved", it says "accepted"...

Besides, got an acknowledgement ages ago.

"If the department decides you are to receive an offer your application will be forwarded to a college"

IF.
Durham has to make two offers to every student, one is the offer of a place on the course and the second is the accommodation offer.

Your application goes first to the course admissions tutors. If they want to make you an offer, then your application is passed to the college of your choice. If they want to accept you and their subject quota has not been filled, then you will receive an offer reasonably quickly ( in Durham terms !)
On the other hand , your chosen college may, for whatever reason, decline you as a student and you application is then passed on to other colleges for consideration, until a college place is offered.
You will not receive a firm offer until Durham can offer both a place on the course and a college place.

If the AES tracker changes to say thay your application has been passed to a college, then it means that the course admission tutor wants to make you an offer, and he now has to wait for a confirmation back from college.

I have never heard of an instance where a student has been rejected because no college has a place.

So.... unless there is an error on AES, you should receive an offer, but it may take a few weeks.

I think this means that they're almost certainly going to give you an offer/interview! Well done!

AES will continue to progress whether you get accepted or not, so there is no guarantee that you will have a place. No news is good news, but this isn't necessarily news at all, just that SOEMTHING has happened to your application.
received my letter today asking me to attend an interview!

had to read it twice before i took it in lol.

Haven't a clue how to get there tho hehe - train i imagine but haven't a clue which
