Info on Queens for Johnny Foreigner!

Hi I am currently on a Gap Year, reapplying to University. I want to go to Queens, mainly cos I want to see another country, and I have alot of family over there. Are there many people not from Northern Ireland at Queens?, nothing against Northern Irish people (my dad's from Armagh) but it would be a good measure of how good the University is. I have heard that an awful lot of people go home at the weekend, which can't be good for socialising!

Yeah, any infomation on Queens and Belfast would be good really.

Not from NI .... hmm, including people from the Republic and the rest of the UK, I'd guess about 15% aren't from NI. I'll not lie, it can be very quite at weekends, as most people go home. However, the locals tend to go out more at weekends - to avoid the students - so the City itself isn't dead, moreso the university area.

A lot of non-NI people use the weekends to do any travelling around the island they want to do, or you might use the time to catch up on work and/or sleep

What are you thinking of studying?

The halls and university area EMPTIES on a Friday until a Sunday evening. A lot of student in Northern Ireland see university as an extension of sixth form too - they already have their circle of friends and don't want to come out of their comfort zone.

Some do, some don't. Personally, I've almost completely avoided anyone from home for my year and a half in Belfast

Thats so true its shocking. Anytime I went to the university area on a weekend it was crap, but then again the city center is only down the road

If I go I'll be studying Philosophy. mmm not sure about the Uni being dead at weekends, that would not be fun. At least there'll be the 15 percent not from NI still there.

The town itself wouldn't be dead.

To be honest if you live in Belfast and dont go into the bars and clubs around the city centre (which is 10 minutes from Queens walking, literally) then you may as well not go out at all.

the first couple of weekends i was in elms i really hated it because of being deserted and i was the only person left on my floor, but pretty soon i started liking the space. You can have people over to watch a film or whatever and play your music as loud as you want. There are still people around and you quickly get a routine. If you do want to go out then town and the odyssey are busy but it's a different crowd.

Odyssey melts my ****ing head  sorry, i hate it.
