Hi!

Any current/former JMH residents?

Would appreciate a few questions answered - please get in touch! Thanks!

Just wondering if I could ask you a few questions about the accommodation!

Thanks in advance

bump!
Are there any Orielites biochemistry undergraduates who can give me hints/tips as to what I can expect at the interview? Have read the biochemistry questions that have been asked by Oxford that were posted on a website, but they're a bit outdated for the competitive day and age it is now.

Have read the "Biochemistry and Molecular Biology" by the Elliots, does that come in handy?

And does Oriel stand out for anything sporty (badminton/swimming is my interest)?

Predicted: A*A*AA
Got: 1 x A*, 8 x A, 4 x C. Under some circumstances.

I'm not doing biochem, but have some friends who are. You could be asked anything, it really depends upon what 1)you write in your PS; 2)your interviewers' interests; 3)the way the interview conversation develops... etc. I know you'll be stressing out about interviews, but it is true that as long as you know your school stuff, your PS and anything extra you have claimed to know, relax and enjoy the conversation you will be fine. Oxford has always been competitive, just concentrate on what you know and how well you can get it across.

Yes, but the books that I've said I've read on UCAS are quite technical stuff (undergrad. grade and beyond), and Oxford have stated on their website that they don't tend to ask technical questions that they would normally expect to a normal college student.

So I have no idea where they're gonna go with that, especially when I've said that I've read : "Yersinia Pestis - Etiological Agent of Plague", which has a complex dissertation of the Y. Pestis bacterium which I doubt they'll be expecting any of their applicants to have read. I have indeed read it a few times but it is difficult to understand it all.

My personal statement is I think compared to others that I've browsed, a little on the broad side and not specific enough so hopefully they'll ask me something I can really answer. Preferably something on sulfonamides.

If you wrote about it in your PS and it is unusual for an applicant to have read something like that, they will probably ask you about it - not expecting you to explain the whole complex dissertation of the bacterium, but just to see how much you did understand, or what you gained from reading such an advanced book at this stage.
Is anyone on here applying to history at Oriel? and if you are already there, what are the tutors like, so I know for interviews (if i'm lucky enough to get one!)
Thanks.
the Oriel history tutors are absolutely lovely, the interviews with them felt really informal and friendly. You have picked one of the best colleges for tutors

I'm applying for History and Politics - holding out (unrealistically) for an interview.

In that case. Well met!
What days are your interviews?
I arrive this Sunday and have to stay until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Does everyone know when/where their interviews are going to be? I've only been told that I "may be invited to interview at other colleges". Should I have received more information than this?!

Just got back from His/Pol interview - you find out if you have extra interviews near the end of the period you're there normally. Take warm clothes - some people's rooms were freezing without working heaters, just complain and you should get a new one.
