Which charity were they working for? How old were they?
Well I shot them a really nasty look.Any other time I'd have gone over and flipped out at them but I was rushing!Lol.
They were mid-20s and I'm not sure if they were trying to sell,do a survey or whatever. If I'd been rude to them, fair enough, but I was really apologetic when I said I couldn't stop(which is rare for me with those kinds of people)....grrr.
Charity people --> Agree with the person who said about the slalom from Market Square to North Road, lol!! Best description ever.....moving from one side to the other side to not notice them, try to avoid eye contact. The best is when you see them harrassing someone else so you speed up to get past while they're busy!! Hehe....but yeah, I wouldn't mind so much if they just had like tubs for money!! But it's the fact that they're like "Yeah give me your bank details and we'll take £10 a month from you"...err...no!
Big Issue women --> Annoying voices, but you can't be annoyed by them. Trevs magazine interviewed the "Big Issue Pleeeasse" woman last year, she has 2 kids who she supports just by selling the Big Issue, for which she earns very very little from. She's from Eastern Europe (Romania?) and finds it hard to find a proper job, especially with her kids. When you know the issues around these people, you really can't start being annoyed at them!
Wind --> Not usually this bad, just been VERY bad lately!
Beggars --> More in Durham? I don't think so, you just haven't looked in the right places in Newcastle. Under the Eldon Square by the big green square (next to Monument) there are usually a few, also in the Bus Stations, and then down some of the streets leading down to Central Station there are a good few. They can't hang around the more popular areas because they'll be "moved along"...I live in Newcastle...I see them all the time!!
Food in college --> Depends on colleges. Trevs food is, IMO and my friends' opinions, really good. OK sometimes it can be a bit iffy, but the majority of the time it's pretty good! Not amazing, but good!
Transport --> As Judith says (was it Judith?)..it's not hard at all to get to the Metrocentre by train. Train to Newcastle, straight off and hop on a train heading to the Metrocentre/Hexham/Carlisle - very regular trains! If not, head out of the station and catch the number 100 bus (every 15mins) right outside the station. EASY PEASY! (And you don't have to find a parking space)

It was me Kev, not someone else masquerading as me!
I quite like the food. AND they've just put in a new salad bar thing which is extra to whatever else you get, so now I can get my fill from a meal without having chips! Woo hoo!
I love Hild Bede. The uni still rips you off though.
Hmmmm I guess so. But they've added lots of new options (like porridge at breakfast, soup and rolls at lunchtime) so they can't just suddenly disappear, can they...?

Trevs has had an "extra salad bar" like outside the servery so you just help yourself to what you want for over a year now
Applying4Maths
porridge at breakfast, soup and rolls at lunchtime
Trevs - porridge at breakfast since I began my degree (in 3rd year now)
Soup at lunch time - since my 2nd year apparantly. Extra to whatever else, so you can technically have as much soup as you like....and as many rolls! In fact, if you're waiting in the queue you can get the bowl of soup and eat it whilst waiting. Bonus!
I think Trevs is leading the way in college food, don'tcha think? hehe
Apart from the fact people have to do rotas working there...
You spend TWO times in the whole year serving, and the majority of people actually enjoy it. You get to know the kitchen staff better and understand what their job is, so you can kind of sympathise, you meet new friends who you serve with.
It's really not a big deal and if it were up to me I'd make every college do a bit of this somehow. You stand around for half an hour serving food, then get your own food (they let you take as much as you like usually!), then you just clean some trays and the tables.
I can see why people are like "OMG how horrendous" lol but it's really not that bad, and as I say - many/most people come out of it having enjoyed the experience!
PS. You only have to do it in 1st year, not if you live in any other year!

John's is also pretty good for food I think. We've always had porridge and soup and stuff (our soup is actually amazing. just... mmm......) and they're v adventurous with puddings (mostly making them unusual colours, but not the point).
