Hi, thanks for the reply! I'm pretty set on putting Cryfield as my first accommodation choice, so this was very good to hear Could you tell me what the bathrooms are like? i.e baths or showers and do you ever end up queuing?
Thanks TheTallOne for your reply too!
theres a wash basin in each room
my corridor has 23 rooms and 5 toilets, two showers and 3 baths with showers over the top. This is ample, I have never ever had to wait for the toilet or a shower. They are cleaned every day (in the week) as well
It's officially past "middle of may 2010" what are they playing at, it's getting beyond annoying. I expect them to change it to 'middle of june' any day now.
What you've got to remember is that there are loads and loads of universities who don't open up accommodation applications until August, or even until after results day, so comparatively to some other unis, Warwick are quite early. I know it can be annoying them saying one thing and then changing it to say another but there really is no rush, so just stay patient

yh this might be the case. however they said that they are going to open it on like march some time, and have been dragging it all since. and it really pissed me off.
Hey, does anyone have any information on what it's like to be in Benefactors?
Im just wondering, I haven't made up my mind yet
Thankss
This is stuff that I've observed so it may be a bit different: I've been there a few times so this is how I see it.
You have two floors and the first floor has 22 single rooms. Second floor has 24 shared rooms. 70 people overall live in Benefactors. The shared rooms are on two floors - shared workspace with two desks and seats on ground floor and a nice massive window across two floors looking over Rootes or some other building. Staircase upstairs to two single beds and the bathroom with shower and toilet (it's en suite). Basically the size of a squash court (perhaps a bit narrower)
Single rooms are pretty much like any standard en suite room, perhaps the smallest ensuite rooms of the 30 week lets.
The block has a large common room and kitchens on the inside of the building. Think of Benefactors as a cube with rooms on all four sides on the outside of the building and communal areas in the central bit. Corridors go between the communal areas and the rooms. Common room: ceiling height is two floors high - ie it's spacious. It's got lots of tables and sofas and everything. Anyone from each floor can get into this common room. Each floor has their own kitchen (I think the top floor has two as there are 48 people). It's very small - probably the size of the Cryfield/JM kitchens linked in the guide at the start of this thread, but there are 22 or 24 people to each kitchen so this is double the number of people. You get double the number of fridges and I saw two cookers, and although you don't need to eat in there (there is the common room) it's still a cramped place.
The common room layout means that the entire place is one massive corridor. Seeing as all 70 people have this common room, you should know most if not all people living in Benefactors. It seems to form a close community of its own, I'd say the community feel is much more like Westwood because of this (Westwood too has common rooms shared by a large number of people compared to say AV where only 12 people share) - and they seem to go out in large groups or know more people in their block. However, it is in a better location than Westwood meaning that it is easy to branch out to other halls and become integrated there.
If you are in a shared Benefactors room and like your roommate then it is a great place to invite 10+ people back after going out as it is massive and spacious and has two floors.
I have a couple of photos as well. It will take a sec.

Wow! Thanks.. thats way more info that I was expecting, Its been really useful, especially the pictures.
Im hoping you get to specify whether you want to be single or joint rooms? Because I couldn't face sharing my room!
Thats pretty much all my questions answered tho.. Thanks again

You don't get to choose. If you do share, your roommate will be the same sex.
Remember if you do end up in Benefactors, the chance of sharing is over 2 in 3. So if you apply there, expect to share. Perhaps you can sway your decision one way or another in your personal statement as it is the warden who allocates you.
I know of times where the other roommate moves out or doesn't spend much time in there. You then have the largest single room on campus. I think it's pretty win then.
You can tick whether you'd be prepared to accept shared accommodation or not on your form.

Ill wait to see this years form just in case its changed, but I REALLY would not wanna share my room, so if not I'll just not put it down
Thanks for the advice, they really should get a bit more student opinion on the warwick website itself!
