Well, uh, point taken, but I'd imagine that the crimes against hygiene mentioned by the other guy were told to him/her by people who were also at Warwick :<

I wouldn't know, but not necessarily - I didn't know anyone before starting here.

Thing is there's no guarantee who you're going to be put with. BUT there are cleaners who regularly clean everything anyway.

I went for JM as 1st choice as , while it is expensive per week, because it is a 30 week let it isn't much , if at all, more expensive than most of the other halls.

i know that the highest position in terms of hall allocation is being a warwick firmer and applying before 31st July. but i imagine this would still be a very large number and with some overly demanded halls i.e en suite, on what basis do they allocate who goes where?
yes, one possible way is the personal briefing in the application. but ive read somewhere that this is only for the hall wardens to help them allocate specific rooms in the given hall. or has this changed?

can someone please help and clear this one out?
I agree that Heronbank and Lakeside are not worth the money for 39 weeks at nearly £120/week if you are planning to go home during the holidays. It's £1000 wasted if you still only spend term time at uni.

That makes Jack Martin and Arthur Vick better value for money in some sense if you live in the UK. It's only a few hundred more expensive than Tocil/Rootes - especially when you only spend 30 weeks here. There is the extra hassle of moving your stuff up and down and also not being able to move back until your let says so - something you should consider.

The idea of Heronbank and Lakeside for someone who will go home during the holidays: either if you love the place or desperately want an en suite should you apply there.

See the first page of this thread and look under 'Where and How to Apply' and then 'How Allocation Works'. Your personal statement has no effect on what halls you will be given. It is only used for allocating your room once you have been placed in a hall.

What do you mean unconditional offers? Did you think that when I said Personal Statement I referred to the UCAS one? I actually mean the 'describe yourself' section (min 30 characters).

Ahh noo I mean in terms of allocation preference, I had an unconditional offer so I just wondered if that would be considered, I said it isn't likely was just wondering

They don't allocate rooms until after results day. If they tried to allocate it in early August then there would be thousands of extra people who won't end up going here either because Warwick is their insurance or they miss their offer and there will be a massive reshuffle - they might as well allocate after they get results.

For that reason a conditional/unconditional offer isn't taken into account. If you firm Warwick with unconditional then you will be part of the firm group. If you have another uni which is a conditional offer and Warwick is your unconditional insurance then should you miss your firm you will be classed as an insurance and you will be in the lower priority group. Deferred entry is classed in the higher priority group.

I'd still go for Rootes. Benefactors kitchens are minuscule and there's 24 people meant to be cooking there. The common room is literally a tip as well. I mean, there's a table for dirty plates.

It's great if you know someone who lives in a shared room because before or after a night out you can go there - there's so much space you can fit 10 or more people there, as long as your roommate doesn't mind.

Thank you so much! By the way, I was doing some fresher's research last night  and I found this: http://www.thefreshersguide.com/The%20Freshers%20Guide_SAMPLE.pdf
I find it pretty useful and I really can't wait til' uni! (But before that fulfilling my conditional offer too :s)
Well I had Warwick as an unconditional firm and got my first choice accommodation. However I didn't put one of AV or JM as my first.....those are the ones you'd be likely to miss out on.
I'm international student
I'm having difficult time deciding 5preferences,,
39week let and first yr accommodations are Heronbank,Lakeside,Rootes,Tocil,Westwood.
But you can only apply one en-suite for 39week let,,,
so I must choose one from 30week let:frown:
Is it hard to get a temporary accommodations over the holidays?
have u seen international student living in 30week accomodation and getting a temporary accomodations during holiday?

Lets say I get 30week let accomodation,
and gets temporary accomodation during holidays, do I have to get all my stuff to the temporary accomdation?:frown: that would be really frustrating,,,

Put Jack Martin/Benefactors/Arthur Vick as 5th place. I'm pretty sure down there you definitely won't get it.

There is also Whitefields at 37 weeks - only a 2 week break a few weeks before Christmas.

There is vacation accommodation available in Cryfield all year round. Check this page from at least a few weeks beforehand so you can apply - it is on a first come, first served basis. (So Vacation accommodation for December will probably open in November). It costs £12 a night (£84 a week) for vacation accommodation, this is about £10 a week more than what residents at Cryfield currently pay.

2 Rootes
3 Cryfield
4 Tocil
5 Whitefields
6 Lakeside

Although not really interested in 4,5,6
Gah I still can't decide which to apply to :frown: Basically I don't really care about ensuite, and want a good social life but I'm worried that if I apply to louder halls I won't fit in as I'm a bit shy at first :\. Ah well still 2 months to decide

Lakeside is nice, I know someone there. I'd pick it over Heronbank

I was told that there are to be building works in 2010-11 just 'behind' Lakeside, so maybe Heronbank might still take advantage of the lake, but be less affected by this? :woo:
Hello!
I'm going to apply for:
JM
Rootes
Tocil
Whitefields
Cryfield

What could I put in my accommodation personal statement in order to boost my chances of getting a socialble/fun corridor in JM?
Thanks in advance

2) Rootes
3) Westwood
4) Tocil
5) Cryfield
