LOL at the first suggestion.

Btw, I am thinking of choosing:

1. Rootes
2. Cryfield
3. Tocil

Do you think I have a good chance of getting Rootes? Also, those are the only 3 I'm interested in so I was thinking of just putting two of AV/JM/HB/LS as 4 and 5, seeing as they'll likely be full by the first preference. Would that make it more likely that I get one of the top 3? Or should I just not be worried lol.

i'm going for rootes too =]
had the same worries but got reassured by TheTallOne saying that we'll prolly get it cuz rootes got so many rooms and people are more into ensuite halls...
let's hope we both get rootes!

Yeah, you almost certainly won't get the en suites with them in 4 and 5. Putting Rootes first has a very good success rate.

However putting 1) Rootes 2) Westwood would decrease the chances of getting Rootes slightly because Westwood is even more undersubscribed.

Again, I'll collect some applications statistics from TSR and see if there is that pattern (using the points method rather than the max the number of 1st places).

Yes, let's hope! The only person at Warwick I know who put Rootes and didn't get it (one advantage of being on a gap year, you know people at loads of unis already) put Westwood second so yeah the key is to avoid that.

Cool. Wasn't going to apply to Weswood anyway so yeah, it's all good.

i put rootes, tocil, whitefields, westwood so should be OK
All done and dusted

1) Rootes
2) Tocil
3) Cryfield
4) Whitefields
5) Jack Martin

I know its a bit of a cop out putting Jack Martin last but I don't like the sound of Westwood much and really can't afford ensuite

Its four months away but still, pretty excited

same here, filled in heronbank as 5th choice just for the sake of it being a required field
anyway, ROOTES FTW!
Wooo Rootes!

My "about me section was pretty poor though, I contradicted myself every other sentence and the language was pretty poor. Ah well the warden's can have fun with that at least

why would you choose living off campus over westwood?
Ive been scanning through a few pages of this thread but struggled to find anything on the pros and cons of Cryfield... Im definitely attracted by the fact its so cheap, basically just wondering whether the bargain price is a reflection of poorer quality when compared to the other halls without en-suites. Any help or feedback from those who have experience in Cryfields would be much appreciated. Thanks

There are at least two reviews of Cryfield in the guide in the first four posts of this thread. There's probably a 90,000 character guide as well you probably missed :p:

Reading lists - depends on the department. Perhaps check the department website, or email the department directly.

Everything else: you don't get stuff sent to you unless you meet your offer. You get a welcome pack for Freshers '10 and stuff from the SU as well.

hey! i have just applied! heronbank-AV-Tocil-Whitefield- Cryfield! eventhough i am an international (EU) student that has firmed Warwick (wbs),i am a bit concern that my application is a little bit risky and in the end may be given an accomdation that may not be in my preferences. Also in the "brief description section" i think that i have not given a clear and correct view of my character afterall!!!
so i would like to ask if the "brief description" plays an important role at allocating students to the accomodation and also if you think that my preferences are risky, can i send an e-mail to change them?
thanks a lot in advance!

I wouldn't recommend trying to change it now, unless you feel you made a HUGE mistake. I think that the brief description part is more so that they can put you with other people who are similar. It probably isn't such a major influencer on which hall...
Most people will get one of their three choices, so I wouldn't worry too much about that and first year will be so amazing that it isn't a huge problem anyway regardless of which accom you get :-)

It's true that this year there are a lot of science students in Cryfield 1. This could be due to the Warden grouping them like that, or it could be by chance or it could be that a greater proportion of science students are from lower income backgrounds than arts students.

Accommodation requires luck. There is not much you can do other than choose your preferences and write a personal statement.

Science students don't get a reading week during terms 1 and 2 - perhaps living with other students who don't have a reading week is an advantage during that period :iiam:

Westwood probably has an unusually high proportion of Maths students compared to other halls as a lot of people fail to make Cambridge (and Westwood is undersubscribed so many insurance applicants will end up here). Most places there is an equal balance of people though.

Bear in mind that trends this year are not necessarily carried forward to next year.
