Claycroft baby! When do I find out about my flatmates?

The day you move in

There will probably be a Claycroft FB group for all residents though.

Yep, far more money to spend on having fun! Also, although it's a pain having to move stuff out, I think I'll feel better knowing I'm not paying for ridiculously expensive storage over christmas/easter.

If you do go for sharing in Westwood, bear in mind that within the first few weeks, many sharers get their own room due to people not showing up or dropping out their course early. By the end of the first term, everyone in my floor in Westwood had their own room.

My friend who i was supposed to get an apartment with still doesn't know if hes going to be doing masters (waiting for job offer replies).

Im thinking of taking up my Westwood share scheme offer.

I have until Sunday 22nd to take up my offer.

Can someone tell me more about this:

1) How much does it cost per week? Initially & after someone moves out
2) What happens when some one moves out (and how do they choose who?) - as in: will someone else move in (e.g. someone off campus in Cov who wanted to be on campus) or will i remain on my own in a shared room?
3) What are the chances of ending up staying in Westwood if i take this up? 'Cos tbh i dont really care where i live as long as its not in the furthest out places of Westwood/Lakeside etc (which also happened to be quite expensive iirc?)
4) are the share scheme westwood rooms further out than other Westwood places?

+ rep offered

1. I think (you might want to check up on this by asking the accomodation people) that sharers pay half the normal rate until someone moves out, then once they have the room to themselves, they pay the standard rate. I'm not sure what this rate is off the top of my head but it'll say on the website somewhere.

2. Generally, if you've found a place off campus they won't let you then try and bag a place on campus so if you're off campus you'll probably stay there unless you get really ill or have very unusual circumstances. So when someone moves out of your room (either to another accomodation that's become free or by dropping out) you'll have your own room from then on.

As for choosing who gets their own rooms first, it's fairly random but they try to keep a balance between the different halls. What that means is they won't have everyone in one building in Westwood geting their own room early on but not in another building - if that happened, the second hall would have a lot of pressure on shared facilities like the kitchen. What they try to do is keep roughly the same number of sharers in each hall in Westwood. However, it's not entirely automatic and you can make special requests, such as asking to get your own room sooner or (if you get on really well with your roommate) later. There is no guarentee that they will be able to accomodate every request though.

3. Pretty high. Generally, when people move out of rooms they try to keep them in the same building as much as possible because many people find that after living in Westwood for a few weeks, they really get to know people on their floor and they want to stay with them. However, you could probably tell your resident tutor that you would prefer to be moved to another accomodation and they would try to sort that out. I don't know anyone who has asked for that though.

I will say that I didn't find Westwood that far out - to get to central campus it's a fifteen (ten if you're quick) minute walk and in terms of getting food, Tesco is really close. I found if I was buying one thing, I could do the whole trip in fifteen minutes. Also some facilities (post room and laundry room) are duplicated up in Westwood.

4. No, they're all mixed up throughout the buildings. Again, if they had certain buildings dedicated for sharers then there would be a lot of pressure on the kitchens.

thanks for the reply  I ended up sending my reply to Warwick Accommodation ~ an hour ago saying that I want to take up the offered place at Westwood (~ 2 hours before their 22nd August deadline :eek3: )....partly prompted by the fact that the only 2 awesome 2 person houses left in Leam were taken and god knows when ill get the reply from my friend and other than living with some randoms globrix.com there doesn't seem to be many options other than far out places which dont appeal at all.

guess its back to campus (fingers crossed if all goes well :p: )

guess i should stop being a lazy **** and complete my student loans thing. thing they still want something from me :eek3:

btw + rep for more answers like this

(ttoby - ill give you yours in 90 mins )
Hi all,
Sorry slightly off topic :o:

I have been placed on campus (En-suite/ Lakeside) for the postgraduate academic year (2010-2011). However I intend to move off campus by the end of April therefore if anyone is making arrangements for currently living off campus is really keen on being closer to the University, could you please get in touch with me now.

This would ideally apply to someone who wanted en-suite (the rent stands at £116 per week) and can live on campus from end of April - September 2011. Regardless of your degree if you register your interest with me from now I think it will offer a peace of mind eight months down the line.

Please note I have not informed the University yet about thereby any changes would have to be authorised by them. So this post is simply to find any interested parties.
Feel free to contact me and ask for my details in case you want to pass this onto someone else you may feel would fit the bill. Thanks!

Regards, Anu

Ps. Dear regular posters/Warwick peeps- any advise how else I can go about finding someone? Much appreciated!

Posters around campus, particularly at Bus Stops (as the people who wait here are the people who live off campus), outside of the library, outside of the Chaplaincy. Facebook group may also help a few months before hand.

We expecting accom. offers this week TTO?

Last year I got my offer on the 8th of September.

I doubt it will be this month as group 2 and similarly group 3 criteria state:
2. Students who meet the criteria for all of the following: who place the University of Warwick as their firm choice, who applied for accommodation by the 31st July 2010, who received their course offer before the 31st July 2010 and who meet the terms of this offer by the 31st August 2010

You find the halls you are allocated to in September (last year Sept 8th). I think some might also find block/flat number, but most don't.

You find out where you exactly are when you collect your keys.

Oh okay, are we told by email or post?

Also, do you have any idea how big the average Warwick wardrobe is? I know you probably don't have exact measurements.. but is it kinda small? Thanks.

Email - you then follow a link and find out where you are.

Main wardrobe is about 170140cm wide, 80cm deep, and as tall as the room (other than about 50cm for either a lockable cupboard or two drawers).

There might be a chest of drawers as well - perhaps 120cm by 60cm and 4 drawers high.

Then there's the bedside table - mine had 2 drawers and an open space.

georgia took photos of her room in Claycroft. Most look like this:

Photos

Differences between the above photos and my room are:
2 drawers below the main cupboard are not there. The cupboard is taller. There are 2 shelves on one half of the main cupboard for shoes/stuff.
The cupboard above the main one is lockable and has double doors (some also have sliding doors).
The top drawer on my bedside table is removed and an open storage space is there.

But hopefully georgia's photos will help :h:

Oooh thank you (and georgia) so much, these pics are fantastic!
170cm is massive! I was worried.

Is it only the PGs that have got their accommodation so far?
