Also, can i point out that the university puts on a shuttle bus that goes from main campus to westwood and lakeside, designed for girls who would have to walk back. Its regular every night. Really useful! I used it once pretending to be a single vulnerable female, think I got away with it :p:

That things always empty! Some folk at my hall know all the times and stops, and we usually get about 15+ of us in there to go to the union

I only got away with it the once. They were like.. "erm, are you a girl? do you have breasts? Get off" so I informed them that yes, i had man breasts, and besides, not all girls have them either. Which they found hilarious, and so let me on.

Disclaimer: I wasn't intending to be sexist, just sarcastic. They didn't get it.

hey ermm off the topic of this bus for a moment..
sorry if it's been asked before but there are too many pages in this thread for me to look through...

Is benefactors the only place where there are twin ensuites? I saw from the virtual tour thing on the website that it has two floors?? (two tables were shown and i saw a stair or something..so is it bedroom(s) upstairs??)

and if i apply can i specify who i want to share with, does it happen if i get it (will they not allow me to choose the person even if i got the room), has anyone been in any of those and how do you think of it??

I thought that technically anyone could use it however females get priority because we are supposedly more vunerable and therefore if males are on the bus and a female needs to use it the males can be told to get off to enable female students to be safe.

What was your first choice? And I got the impression that Rootes was the most partyish accommodation of them all:confused:

I had JM and Whitefields down I think. Who knows what they think when they look throughh the applications. Perhaps I was put in Rootes because most people on my course seem to be in Rootes and because I said I was 'your typical drama student'. I don't live on a particulary partyish corridor either to be honest.. I mean we go out and stuff but we aren't like other corridors that I know of. Rootes probably got the party reputation simply becuse of its layout...lots of people on big long corridors, it kind of gives that impression. I am one of the few people on here who tells of many peaceful nights too, I am not disturbed by crazy noise levels often and usually its people from my corridor if it is.

You have no idea quite how big my smile was when I read that. Good work. If you want to get involved next year, never fear, as you don't have to be at Westwood to be in W.E. now! So you're serious about it, let me know and we can have a chat about what you'd like to do.

Well I'll spread the word about WE where ever I'm living if thats the case! Next time we're both on messenger I'll say hi  Oh and I hope your Westwood party went well

Please do! Yeah, its a little old now, but the party went well thanks.
does any of the accommodation have like pool/snooker tables in its vicinity? Or any sports facilities for that matter in the actual accommodation buildings?

I realise this may be very wishful thinking, lol.

thanks

The sports centre is only a very short walk from most of the accomodation. I can walk to the sports centre in less than 5 minutes.

You missed an opportunity to promote Westwood! There is one in the cafe in the middle of Westwood and if you go in the 3 halls closest to the road and campus it's a 1minute walk. For Knightcote probably closer to one that Rootes is to the Rootes Social Bar!!

So, is Jack martin the only one with ensuite?
Reply 333
No, Arthur Vick and Lakeside are ensuite too.

Cheers, so which one is the best out of the three?
Best in what terms? How good the accomodation is? How lively it is? How far away from everything else it is?

Over all including everything, I am going to be in the Business school.

I am asking this question as I couldn't find the pro's and cons for arthur vick and lakeside. I am pretty certain that I will choose JM. I just want a few more opinions before I make a final decision.
Its really difficult to say - for some people lakeside is dream accomodation, for others its a complete nightmare.

Do you want social life? Do you want it not to be ridiculously expensive? Do you want to be close to the business school? There's no 'best' accomodation... just whats best suited to you.

For me, I would choose none of the ensuites but thats because they're generally a lot quieter than the rest. JM is probs a good bet, though for a few pounds a week more you get AV which is overall much nicer accomodation with its own common room and launderette in the building. Downside is that its even more quiet than JM (and JM sometimes has a rep for being really quiet). Lakeside is like a cemetary.
Here are some pics of my room in JM and the kitchen (it's actually clean! )
