I'm just wondering how long can guests stay over for in Halls if a friend were to come visit?

Let's put it this way - there was a room where they had someone staying over for pretty much the entire academic year. People did complain about them using up all the resources in the kitchen and the resident tutor did promise to do something about it but nothing ever happened.

Westwood. But it wasn't that bad as the kitchen was designed for 26 people. We all just found it a bit strange and slightly annoying. A bigger concern was that we suspected that group of people for being responsible for stealing people's food.

Ah yes, food stealing: more often than not it is a drunk hungry friend of a flatmate who pops into the kitchen looking for food.

So I firmed my unconditional offer today, as I saw the accommodation is now available to apply for. Afterwards and several times since I have tried to register to apply, but when I put in my family name/DOB/UCAS ID, it says that they have not recognised me and I can't get further.

It tells me to email the accommodation people at Warwick, which I did but of course they are out of office for easter.

Has anyone had this happen? I really want to get this accommodation sorted, but obviously can't. Is it just a case of waiting a few more days until the uni have.. I don't know... realised i've accepted the offer and put me onto some kind of system? Or should it already be available for me to do, and is this some kind of weird problem that needs sorting?

Thanks!

Since you only firmed recently, it may take a while for it to update on the accommodation system (I'd guess that they have to update the fact that you now have firmed/insured Warwick before your UCAS ID becomes active). But it isn't first come, first served - apply before end of July and you will be in group 2 for allocation with everyone else who firmed Warwick.

There is a thread dedicated to where people apply found here
hiii sorry if this has already been asked, but do you have to apply for accomodation if you've put warwick as your insurance? it sort of implies it but i'm not too sure.

Yep apply now, if you end up missing your firm you will be in the third allocation group according to the principles of allocation (providing you satisfy the other criteria). Check out the guide at the start if you haven't already done so
I just applied  Nervous! I hope I get my first choice man!

I applied for the following:

1.

Tocil -- I really want this one!

2.

Westwood

3.

Rootes

4.

Whitefields

5.

Lakeside

What did you apply for ?

Does anyone on here know much about lakeside? I noticed it is quite a bit more expensive than some of the other halls, is it worth the extra cost?

Depends on what your preferences are basically :p:

If you hate to party then Rootes probably isn't for you, if you do Biology (as you do) then Westwood probably isn't for you as it is on the opposite side of campus. On a budget? Stay away from the 39 week en suites.

There are a number of factors you must consider when you choose your halls, these include price, location, atmosphere of the hall, the quality of the facilities, the size of the room, the sharing situation, how long the let is, along with many more. So my question to you is, what do you look for in a hall? Do you have a budget? Do you prefer really lively, really quiet or somewhere in between? Do you want a 30 week let, or 37/39? Do you want en suite? etc...

Me personally rate location quite highly, and as such my preferences would involve halls that are nearer the Maths department, but then other factors will take over. For example, I would choose JM first because it is en suite and I can afford it, and socially I think it is better than AV. Rootes and Tocil will come next, Tocil because of its location and Rootes because I prefer more social halls.

hey , seems you know alot about the uni.
Can you tell me the accommodation in close proximity of the law dept and the B-school coz my course involves both? Preferably 30 weeks en suite. money no probs. Any type of social setting, i'll take care of it.

30 weeks ensuite limits you to Benefactors, Jack Martin and Arthur Vick.

In terms of proximity to Social Sciences, Benefactors is closest - there are 70 places available there. Jack Martin is next furthest away and Arthur Vick is in the vicinity of JM. Both of these have around 400 places. Cryfield, Rootes, Bluebell and Whitefields are all pretty close as well, these are not en-suites apart from Bluebell and vary in contract length.

But please check out the front of this thread - there's a guide that will help you if you want to see reviews and photos of the halls (oh and a map - the building you want is social sciences )

Note that the colour scheme is out of date (Heronbank isn't available to first years, and Bluebell is in the yellow bit below Rootes)

All over the place, but I'd say they will be more likely to apply to halls closer to the social sciences building - see the post above for that

Check the guide at the front of the thread for the opinion of Lakeside - you pay for the en suite and the low sharing ratios. Paying the extra 9 weeks (over a 30 week ensuite) or the extra £20-30/week (compared to a 39 week non-ensuite let) is your choice. Do you need 39 weeks? Do you prefer an en suite?
Bit miffed at the moment, Our landlord knocked let himself into our house with his own keys at 8.30am this morning, Didn't give us 24 hours notice, or barely knocked first. I'm 200 miles away at the moment but I'm absolutely gobsmacked my housemates didn't ask him to leave.

I would like an en suite, but I don't really need the 39 week let-I think I'll go for Arthur Vick/Benefactors instead. What would you recommend?
