About this AV discussion, I've thought about it and surely you'd meet so many different people from so many different accomodations - in your lectures, societies, and generally at the union - so I don't see how you would definitely be bored just because you're in quiet accomodation..? If you're not a boring person I'm sure you'd make it interesting for yourself

Yeah that is what I'm thinking! I have put AV as my first and Rootes as my second (even though they are apparently so different!). I also don't know how having an en-suite determines how sociable a person is! I'm going for an en-suite because I can have one and I wouldn’t turn it down! Also the en-suite halls tend to be newer. But I am very sociable too! Surely if everyone is worried about it being antisocial then they are sociable themselves? I loved staying at Rootes and I didn't mind sharing a bathroom but why should I go for there over AV if AV has nicer accommodation? Is it likely that I will get my first choice? I don't mind being in either! It is what you make it surely?! :s-smilie:

Its because halls like AV are 'quiet halls'. So you are more likely to get put into them if you say things like 'I like to go to sleep early' and 'I want a good working environment'.

Yes you meet so many people blah blah blah but at the end of it, people generally stick to their kitchens when going out. Its a sad fact. So if your kitchen doesnt go out much then it just makes life a lot more difficult.

I was in AV in my first year and it was PANTS. My kitchen decided within the first week that they didnt like the union (errr.... where else are you gonna go?) and there was only 2 of us that drank to get drunk (and the other guy had his own group of intl friends) so yup that worked out great.

Admittedly I should have done more to find people who I got on well with etc etc but in your first year you don't necessarily know which are the societies that are really fun and sociable. Economics people arent my type, athletics people were the epitome of warwick personality wise (nice but bland) and I spent half my time working at the union.

But enough of the moan its alright now, just took about 1.5 years before I met people who I actually really clicked with and started doing what I thought I'd be doing at uni :p:
Fair enough. Did you put AV as your first choice then? I said I am sociable but likes my own space sometimes. How do you think they will interpret that?! Do you think they will take much notice of the brief description? Because at the moment I go out quite a lot to clubs and pubs and I am generally quite outgoing! I really liked the union, I have only been to top B twice though! Rest of the time I stayed in the Rootes kitchen playing drinking games etc. Do you know many people who are outgoing and sociable that went to AV and enjoyed it? Yeah you don't want to have to make even more effort to meet people just because you don't fit in with the people you live with, especially in your first term! Sorry so many questions! x x

Yup I put AV as my first choice (and got it even though I applied almost a month after the application deadline!).

People who went to AV and enjoyed it do exist but you have to be REALLY lucky in getting a good sociable kitchen. Which doesnt happen very often.

To be honest, your best bet is rootes/one of the standard fun accomodation blocks. People think they want their own space before they go to uni but then they get there, having fun, meeting as many people as possible and basically having a non-stop slumber party is totally doable and very enjoyable. All part of the experience. When you want your own space, you shut your door :p:
i agree with the above^^ whats my chances of getting rootes if i put it is my first choice and in the brief description mention that i am pretty sociable

I have to say, when I visited Arthur Vick with a friend, we popped into the kitchen and the people weren't exactly living it up big time lol. But I'm still going to keep positive cuz I know people applying who are really fun
Ah ok, thanks for your help!

Also... given the amount of time me and friends spend around a shisha atm, im thinking i wanna take one to warwick, i know the handbooks all say they're not allowed but rules are there to be broken. so should i put myself down as a smoker? tbh i dont want to be stuck living around people that smoke ciggerettes all the time.. double standards i know

does anyone know what they do with regards to smokers? i dont wanna put yes if it affects my chance of getting rootes, also i dont wanna be put in a kitchen consisting ONLY of smokers!
redredred have you even confirmed warwick as your first choice ?

Simplysheyda I firmed it today :P
Hey there,

Just wondering what the fridge/freezer situation is like in Halls? I've looked at the photos of all the different kitchens but none seem to have that many fridges or freezers.

Are the fridges and freezers integrated into one unit? Like a fridge at the bottom then a tiny little freezer compartment at the top? Really hope this isn't the case as they'll be no room for everyone to freeze foods like Pizza!

The only kitchen I have seen is when I went to visit my friend who lives in Cryfield. They had 2 kitchens for their corridor - one old & one new - and they had 2 huge fridges & 2 huge freezers in each. I think there was about 20 rooms on the corridor so more than adequate space!

Pretty constricted since wanted 30 week let and only allowed 1 ensuite...

See you all there!

westwood fridge/freezer space is limited but we survive. On my floor we have less than everyone else, one fridge and one freezer between 18 people. Still, we make do.

I am getting ready to apply to accomodation to warwick.. the only problem is that i have not been to warwick before so i dont know anything about the places im applying to.
so i was wondering if anyone could help me pick.
for example first.. which should i choose from the three en suite places lakeside- arthur vick- or jack martin.
and what is the difference between 30 week and 39 week lease?

30 week is if your planning on going home in each holiday and 39 week is if you are staying @ Warwick during the Winter and Spring holidays. (more weeks than 39 is if you want to stay during some of the summer holiday as well).

There's a load of stuff on here about how horrendously quiet AV is quiet is so I just want to clarify that its definetly not for anyone like me who's rather sociable because it does look the nicest accomodation. And how's JM compare? Is it really that much better, or once again that bit too quiet.

Which residence seems to be the most sociable behind roots while still having single rooms in halls? I need to decide what my third choice would be. It would be Westwood but I can't say i'd fancy a 15 minute walk to central campus multiple times a day, but I am considering bringing a bike along. (Yet another question, do many people bring cycle bikes, or is there no need?)

Do you think putting 5 choices down would prevent you from getting put somewhere you really don't want or make it more likely you'll get lumped with your 4th/5th choice?

is lakeside a good place to stay in

If you are an international student then it would be best to get a 39 week let I think becasue then you dont have to move all your stuff out your room at the holidays. If you are willing to go home and take all your stuff with you in all the holidays then you can pick a 30 week let though.

In terms of ensuite that sort of limits your choice because both JM and Arthur Vick are 30 week lets. You could try Claycroft though which is one bathroom between 2 and has a 39 week let. Lakeside is also a longer let but it is very quiet socially, if you dont mind that then you could apply there as it has very nice surroundings.
