Well basically first year overseas postgraduates are given priority for accommodation on campus - that means that naturally any one who's a postgrad will get a place before any UK/EU student. Naturally there are more international students. Sadly I don't have any figures though. The rest of the home postgrads have to live off campus.

thanks. Seems kinda weird lots of internationals got off-campus and I got on-campus (my first choice!).

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, are you an EU student?

Thanks! No, I'm a home student. What's your situation?

EU student. I asked you because I had this "conspiracy theory" according to which all EU postgrad students get allocated off-campus due to a high number of applicants this year (and given that non-EU students are guaranteed a room on-campus). Haha! Obviously I don't know how the stats are, but I would say you can consider yourself very lucky! And your first option nonetheless, wow!

Ah, I see what you mean. I saw a lot of Facebook posts from EU students with off-campus rooms (and a few from international students too). I do hope there are some home students in my block.. And yeah I am really lucky to get it!

There must be, you can't be the exception! I hope you meet people you share common interests and can connect with, regardless where they are from. But I can understand why home students don't fancy that much being surrounded by internationals in general. This will be the third time I study abroad and tbh I also wish my flatmates are not of certain nationalities. I hope this doesn't sound racist, it's just that I've met girls from Ukraine, Russia and Poland for example, and I've never managed to be friends with them. We just "tolerated" each other. Of course tomorrow I could meet somebody from Ukraine and be my best friend, but after some experiences... Pavlov effect, I guess.
So, when I read home students worried they'll be in a corridor full of overseas students... Those comments sound really bad, but I understand their point.
My best friends are from Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Japan... very different cultures! So I can't figure out the pattern really. Even if most your flatmates are not home students, don't throw in the towel. Give it a go for a couple of days, you all might be surprised  And if it doesn't work, at least you aren't sharing the bedroom and there are plenty of ways to meet people on campus.
Best of luck!! :yy:

Nice post, but I hope I didn't come across as international-phobic! The only issue is that generally speaking international students' culture is really different to mine so that's the only reason I want some home company! Two of my best friends during undergrad were international so I hope I don't come across as a hater to anyone.
PS: that's quite an eclectic mix of nationalities your best friends have. If you don't mind me asking, what are you studying and where else did you study? Three countries is a lot.

Last year, you would not have got a room. They would've organised off campus accommodation for you.

This year there is increased capacity due to Bluebell. It's worth applying, decline if you dislike the accom offered.

Well, I applied already at the end of May. Now I want to switch my course, but the Admissions Team told me that I will lose my priority for the accomodation. It is hard to make the desicion, because I need to think about the money matters as well.
What are your suggestions?

Get here.

Switch course ASAP.

Accommodation office need not know. A guy in my flat did this. Then he dropped out. Now he is behind me a year but still here doing yet another course and loving it!

What course are you changing from/to? If they are fairly similar, it may be the case that it's easy to switch when term starts rather than do it now and lose your priority.

Saying that I know someone who switched courses (from Maths&Physics to Maths, so not even in the same department) and it didn't seem to change his priority for accommodation, so I don't think they even always check.

Yeah switch after they offer you your accommodation.

No, of course not! But a few months ago, the first time I read comments like "are there many internationals in Lakeside/AV/...?" I admit I thought something along those lines. But as I said, I understand now those worries do have a point, which is not "international-phobia". It just took me a while to figure it out.
I'm a postgrad so I've been here and there doing research. I met most of my friends whilst in Japan  We were quite a mix indeed! I'm proud to say a have a good friend in Samoa (extra points for whomever can locate it on a map, lol!).
Sorry, this is a bit off-topic

While I can't help with an actual house, this SU forum might be of use to you :h:
Hey guys

What would you say are vital things you should bring when you move in? (I mean home stuff not like clothes) E.g. towels and an iron

Anything in this list: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/What_To_Take_To_University

:h:

Well, that is actually overkill but probably everything you will bring will be in that list :p:

You don't need to bring bedding if you don't want to, but some people do since it wouldn't have been used by loads of people before, etc. Anything you have questions about, post here and perhaps we could answer them :h:

There's a guide on http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/What_To_Take_To_University about this. I'll go through each section on how it relates to Warwick.

Academic: The relevence of these items probably depends on your course.

Bathroom Items: Toilet roll is provided, but for the other things you should only take what you would expect to be using on a regular basis.

Bedroom Items: All the bedding required is provided, although you may want to bring your own duvet cover to personalise your room a bit, or even a full set of bedding if that's your preference. As for decorative things, bins are provided and everything else there is clearly optional. Avoid incense sticks as you won't want to be setting off the fire alarms.

Clothing: You're not asking about that

Bicycles are not required at all if you're living on campus, although depending on where you're living, some people might find them useful.

Documents: Definitely bring either a passport or driving license for general ID purposes. Don't bother with exam certificates unless the uni are actually asking for them. Oyster cards don't apply although if you have one you might as well keep it on you in case you go to London. For everything else listed, you may as well take them if you have them since they could come in handy.

Electrical Items: Extension leads are useful but not essential, depending on how many things you'll want to plug in. Definitely bring a laptop if you have one - if you don't then consider buying one. You'll need an ethernet cable although you can buy them when you're there. Printers and other computer equipment are optional. Mobile phone is essential, camera is optional. Don't bother with a TV because it will be too much hassle with finding an aerial socket (these may not necessarily be in your room) and you can watch DVDs on your laptop. MP3 players are optional. Alarm clocks are optional. Probably won't be hot enough for a desk fan. Hair dryers/irons - take them if you'll use them. An ironing board is provided.

First Aid Items: Take whatever you'll think you'll need, bearing in mind that there are shops nearby that sell this kind of stuff.

Kitchen Items: From the appliances, kettles and toasters are provided and mini fridges are banned. The others are optional. For the equipment/storage/tableware, those are all possible things to bring, but space in the kitchen is limited so before bringing something, ask yourself if you'll really use it often and if you have another piece of equipment that does a similar job. You can buy ingredients and basic equipment when you're over there. Other: Bin bags are provided and you can get recipes online. You could bring the other items listed but limit yourself as much as you can.

Laundry and Housekeeping Items: Bear in mind a tumble dryer is available. You'll probably end up sharing washing up liquid and bin bags are provided. For everything else you'll need to bring/buy it if you think you'll need it.

Miscellaneous Items: These aren't really essential unless you think you'll need any of them.

Personal Items: Bring whatever applies to you.

Stationery Items: Noticeboards (may) be provided. Pens are essential. For the others, take what you would find useful.

In general, if you do forget anything important, you can normally buy it from somewhere like Tesco.
