Omg bluebell looks unreal!

I'd avoid Bluebell, it seems very expensive. There's also Jack Martin and Arthur Vick which are nicer than Rootes, not too quiet and a lot cheaper than Bluebell.

As above, I'd avoid it. After having been in there, the kitchen is small, the rooms are the same size as AV, they have annoying floor-ceiling windows that offer no privacy whatsoever unless you want to live in the dark, and the price is ridiculous! You're better off choosing AV/JM. They have similar size rooms with MUCH more shelf space, they (well, AV) have a common room attached to the kitchen, which is more useful and convenient than you will imagine until you've lived there, and it's in a much nicer location! The only downside (if you can call it a downside) is the single beds! :yep:

The only positive to Bluebell was that it's brand spanking new. Next year, that attraction fades.

Changing the subject slightly...I've just realised how good the heating in Arthur Vick is. Tonight I'm back in my house in Yorkshire and it's freezing!

:yep: . The heating is fantastic. The water temperature for a shower at 8am in the morning when everybody else is showering is a bit suspect however :hmmm:

Ah, I haven't had that problem-I have showers before bed...

Having lived in Bluebell for a term, I would have to say that I agree with this. It's nice and my room is gargantuan (I'm in a room designed for wheelchair users), however the majority of flats are slightly unsociable and having been in Jack Martin like a million times, it's fair to say that I much prefer corridors to flats. If I could go back in time, I would have probably just chosen Jack Martin (the environment in AV is dead) and Rootes as my preferred options.

What would best suit me? I'm a lively, friendly person whom would like privacy amd tranquility a lot of the time, but i'm however, looking to have a good/fun social life too. I'm thinking JM, whitefields, benefactors and tocil. Which one would suit me?

Re Bluebell: Agreed. I live in Bluebell too, and it's really unsociable. It took about a month and 10 fire drills (oh Block 3. Thank god they fixed it.) to discover that a girl in 3 of my classes lives in the flat across the corridor from me. If I could choose again I probably would have gone for AV or Rootes.

And a tip to anyone thinking of Rootes for the social life but put off by parties: just indicate it in the statement about yourself on the accommodation form. My friend lives in Rootes, but her floor is dead quiet at night because they're the mostly non-party/non-drinking floor.
Added a map of accommodation options around university if you are not interested in living in Leamington.

I would totally agree with this. I'm in Rootes and before I went I was really worried about the 'loud' repuation. However, I absolutely love it; it was SO easy to make friends and have barely ever had problems with noise. Plus, you have to remember that the people making the noise are your friends, so generally you are much more tolerant, or you just find yourself joining in too! There's actually someone from Bluebell who's always in our kitchen because they find it so much more social than rheir flat.
They do take into account your preferences on the form you fill out...I would say I've been really well matched with people in my corridor and there are floors a lot quieter than ours - the ground floor certainly are in my block!

Might be worth considering Cryfield as well. It's halls rather than flats, so more sociable, and it's pretty near the union. If you're gonna go Whitefields and put up with the constant hum of the union though, you may as well choose Rootes and get more fun hallmates.

There are 'fun hallmates' everywhere :hand: . Rootes just happens to have a higher proportion of them :h:

Yeah but in Rootes if the people in your kitchen are ****, you can just go next door or onto another floor. It's not as easy in flats.
Rootes is so my top choice!

Is there a new accommodation building being built for 2012 freshers...?

Yep, it's true. Looking at the planning forms, it's a set of 6 4-storey blocks, with 8 flats in each block. 573 beds in total. The layout is flats again - each floor has two flats with a front door that you need a key (keycard? Bluebell has them) to get through. Looks like it's about 10-13 people in each flat, and the majority of flats seem to have a double room (two single beds on opposite sides of the room) which are for two people, which I guess can be used as a disabled room.

There's laundry in at least one of the buildings, probably one laundry in each block.

Looks as though it's single beds only, en suite with shower. One kitchen per flat, so again it's 10-13 per kitchen. Looks (on the planning forms) that they have two cookers and two sinks.

Anyway, check out these diagrams and see what you think. There are 5 'corner' shaped blocks and one standard rectangular block, but hey, that doesn't really matter.

Location is next to the current Lakeside blocks, so it's a fair distance from central campus - I've made a map to illustrate the location.

Oh god, it looks like a bad version of bluebell...
The layout looks very similar to Arthur Vick too :yep:
