Hi I've recieved an offer from warwick and I've only just started looking at their accomodation - there are a few that I like the look of such as Jack martin or the Lakeside one. But could someone please give me more info about which accomodation(s) tends to be more quieter - Im not a drinker and I dont intend to be when I go to uni so Im really hoping to find accomodation where theres not that many party animals (!) thankyou

Avoid Rootes, since that has a reputation for attracting noisier people. In general, the more expensive halls tend to attract more quieter people. However all halls will contain a mixture of all personalities so the most important thing is that when you're asked to give a description of yourself, you say that you want to be somewhere quiet. Then they should ensure that the people on your flat/corridor have a similar personality so you get on with them well.

Edit: From the halls you're interested in, Lakeside probably has more of a reputation for being quiet.

Arthur Vick is pretty quiet too, and far away enough from the Student's Union for you not to be able to hear it.

Really sorry to bring this up again guys, but im so turn between these... AV vs JM vs Bluebell(BB),
so just wanna ask out of the 3 which any of you would prefer/recommend.
BB is pretty pricey and i might end up not picking it, but my mates really love it; is the social life there as bad as i hear??

I don't think Bluebell is as bad as people think. It depends on who you're grouped with. I know of people who appear to be party animals at Bluebell and then recluses.
random question and not really important, just something i was wondering about the other day. do tocil kitchens have gas or electric hobs? or a mixture?

When I lived there last year they were electric, and I'm pretty sure that's the same in any block and most halls actually. Probably because they don't want us blowing up the place by accidentally leaving the gas on...

They want us to die

Someone did leave the gas on overnight once, but nothing happened. What a great story.

The grill is what's dangerous. If you cook Tesco Finest sausages on it then it's a good idea to stay in the room because about half to third of the time they catch fire and you need to be there to blow it out. And then there was the time someone's fish fingers caught fire causing us to evacuate the whole building, fire brigade showed up, we had to get a new oven.

Cheers  I lived in Cryfield in first year and we had a gas hob and an electric hob in our kitchen, but the one across the hall from us only had electric. Their kitchen was newer than ours though, so Id guess when they refurbished them they only put electric ones in. sob!
Hello, i am currently looking for undergrades accomodation now and deciding between lakeside and bluebell. What are the pros and cons between them and which one would you choose and why? Also what other accomodation would you recommend?
Hopefully, i'd be studying biochemistry
Thank you in advance!

Well, there's one BIG pro and one BIG con for each

Bluebell:
- Fricking expensive.
- About 10-15 minutes closer to Gibbet Hill (when you have a 9 o'clock start and a 15 minute walk anyway, it makes a difference).

Lakeside:
- Less expensive.
- About 10-15 minutes further away from Gibbet Hill.

Lakeside looks great, though many cited the 15min walk to SU as the main con. I assume I'll be having my classes at the business school most of the time... so just wondering if walking to the business school might reduce the walking time to half of that?

Also, I'm a light sleeper. How's the sound-proofing of the rooms? And any noisy birds that might visit frequently?

I had heard that undergraduate courses at WBS aren't actually taught in the business school?

As far as I'm aware, the rooms are quieter than others on campus, but I don't know whether that's due to thicker walls or the people who generally go for Lakeside/Heronbank.

The ducks and geese around the lakes can be pretty damn noisy when they want to be, but they don't tend to go too close to the blocks and I've never heard of anyone being woken by them.

I'm a very light sleeper, and if I can survive in Rootes I'm pretty sure anyone can survive in Lakeside

I can walk from Lakeside to Gibbet Hill or Tesco in 15 minutes - it absolutely does not take 15 minutes to get to the SU!

With regards to noise, it is generally true that people who live in Lakeside are quieter and, speaking as someone with very sensitive hearing, the walls are quite effective at blocking noise. Sound does travel in unusual directions though and the floors and ceilings aren't so good but I imagine they are better than some other halls. The geese tend to make a racket as they roam around during the day but are fairly considerate during the night (at least I have never been woken up by them).

Got an offer to study PAIS and was just wondering how current students cope with not having an en suite? In terms of waiting for showers in the morning and what not

It was never a problem for me, at least I never had to wait for more than ten minutes or so. You will be sharing toilets and showers with about 6 people at most, and there will always be other toilets within the block if one is being used. They will try and put you with people on different courses, so you will have different timetables and it's unlikely that everyone you share with will want to shower in the morning, anyway.
