I am pretty much decided upon Westwood by default now..cause I don't want 39 week rent, definitely 30 week, but can't afford AV or JM...so basically, it seems I'm stuck with either Rootes or Westwood. And since I only want to go out a maximum twice a week and like to have peace and quiet most of the time I don't think Rootes is for me, though I do like occasional parties..So anyone know if I have any other option? If I put that I don't like to go out too much on my form and apply for Westwood will I probably be okay?
Argh this is a bit annoying cause I've pretty much got no choice.

Lol people aren't going to force you to go out in rootes! And its only some kitchens that go out all the time. Just put rootes down you can't go wrong really.

Lol no of course I know! but if most people want to go out all the time then I don't want to feel left out really. Plus, I'd like it to be quieter so that I have somewhere quiet to go home to and can go out if I want to stay up all night, make noise, etc.

Not to put a mass generalisation but if you're on TSR and planning on coming to warwick your priorities are not probably going out getting wasted all the time. Most people choose to come here because its a nice safe little campus uni and can carry on living a pretty sheltered life. Uni is time to let go a bit and go crazy, seriously get over the 'I want peace and quiet' thing! Its not going to be a 24 hour party but if you think its going to be and you go for 'quiet' you're going to end up with nothing. That's what happened to me and I seriously regretted it.

'Sociable but want some peace and quiet occasionally so I'll go for AV' = get into AV, realise noone ever really wants to go out/get drunk that often --> be seriously disappointed and wish you'd gone for rootes where everyone is having lots of fun just like you thought you'd be having.

I'm exaggerating a bit but you get my drift.
i agree 100% ^

i'd rep you if i had any real repping power

Rootes isn't exactly as its reputation makes it sound you know...I live in Rootes and we don't go out all the time, during the first couple of weeks the majority go out all the time but it is freshers week and all that. When things settle down it is a really great place to live. Not one non stop party from term 1 to term 3 (if it is then I haven't noticed). Best advice is to put down truthful statements on your form and you will probably be happy where you end up. I put down that I like quiet nights in, baking cakes and all sorts of other sad geeky activities and was put in Rootes with lovely people who I get on well with because we don't all want to go out all the time and have nice evenings in together watching films and things like that.

i'm a newbie

just doing my accomodation application now (got printouts of accomodation reviews everywhere. . . )

any advice on where'd be best for me? i'm looking for somewhere sociable, pretty loud, people who're up for a laugh and going out. a lot. don't mind smoking, don't want a single sex hall  into rock/indie/blahblah music.

so far at the top of my massive heap of papers are Rootes / Whitefields and Hirst.

heeelllllllllllppp!
Rootes

To try and get Arthur Vick I put that I wanted to be in a quiet area and in the little box thing i think i put something along the lines of:

I'm an outgoing individual who likes late nights and lie-ins. However, I need a quiet environment to be able to sleep and do work adequately. I'm a sociable person and will be taking full advantage of the activities and societies available. I'm an aerobics enthusiast with a love of competitive dance and I would love to be able to share my passion for fashion with a 'hall-mate' or two!
........................................................................................................

Quite cheesy but I'm really worried about who I may live with, as in will we get on/have anything in common etc. etc. so I thought I may as well just be truthful.

I just tried to keep it mostly describing myself truthfully, but also a bit skewed so that I have more chance getting where I want to go.

Bit like a personal statement really!

i wrote something like, "very sociable and outgoing, main interest is music so have no problems living with musicians / people who play loud music. non smoker, but living with smokers is fine. late retiring- would prefer to stay with people who're the same."

felt like writing a personal ad! Female, 18 looking for ... haha
I put Benefactors as my first choice - but there aren't any posts listing pros and cons about it. Anyone living/lived there?
How is accomodation allocated - is it a first come first served basis or do they assess all applications together at a given time?
Hey, I've got Warwick down as my insurance, am I guaranteed accomadation? Also should I apply online for accomadation before the 31st July or is that only for people who put Warwick down as firm?

yes and yes. this isn't a london uni is it?!*curses ucl*
Imperial, but after todays Physics synoptic i'm confident my destination is Warwick, I really don't have much of a preference between the two but the shame of telling everyone I didn't get into my first choice is just gonna be too much /o\

You should just pretend warwick was the first choice all along and they got it wrong. Anyway, I hope it went better than you think

meh i wasnt asking if ur firm was a london uni  i was showing dissatisfaction at the fact that london unis dont guarantee accommodation to insurance offer holders. it's ironic cos i'm gonna miss my warwick offer and end up at ucl/gap year
