What annoys me most about Bluebell is the key card entry past 4 doors in order to get anywhere useful. It makes it nearly impossible for anyone to get into, and if you find yourself in Bluebell with hallmates who you don't find very sociable, other routes to socialise (namely society/sports clubs) can't get in to flyer/advertise to you.

It's all demonstrated in this image:

Hey guys,

Was wondering what advantages there are being in a flat and being in corridors? Living in a flat doesn't seem too appealing to me for some reason :/

Each of the halls have a similar format - a corridor with bedrooms and a kitchen coming off and also a common room or showers/toilets depending on which halls you're in.

The main difference is whether the different parts of the building are separated by locked doors. Bluebell is one of the more extreme examples of this as mentioned above, and also Whitefields has lots of small buildings only accessible to the people living there. At the other extreme you have Rootes where you can go throughout a very large building without encountering a locked door.

The main disadvantage of locked doors everywhere is that it's difficult to socialise with people in other flats e.g. if you don't get on with the people you're with. The main advantage is that it can help to prevent theft.

Also, whats the likelihood of getting our first choices? :/

It depends which hall you choose. Naturally, halls with more rooms like Rootes, or halls with less applicants, will give you a better chance of getting it as your first choice. Popular halls with fewer rooms like AV/JM gives you less of a chance of getting it as your first choice :dontknow:
AH I have no idea what I want it all looks amazing! (I refer back to my earlier comment, I'd sleep in a bin if it meant a guarentee I'd meet my offer)
I don't think to be honest I would need an ensuite, my mum has kindly said she'd try and help if my loan doesn't cover everything, which it won't, but really if it meant saving myself £50 a week.. well. I quite enjoy the idea of Rootes at the moment  My only preference as of yet is a 39 week let.

'I'd sleep in a bin' haha love it! Definitely got the right attitude there  I can't wait for Warwick! (Although I'm sort of hoping for somewhere a little bit more comfortable/hygienic than a bin  )

39 weeks boosts your prices a bit for en suite. You'll be looking at Lakeside, Bluebell or Lakeside I guess, or the new one Sherborne! That one is a little cheaper too. I'm thinking I don't really need one either so I'll be looking to save some pennies!
I like the look of Rootes too  I think it might be my second choice after JM and I'd be super happy to go there. JM/AV would be the only en suite I could afford as its 30 week let so may as well give that one a shot  Slightly worried about lack of social life though so Rootes may get top spot.

Has the accomodation application process still not opened? I was under the impression it usually opens around early spring?

In 2009, applications opened in the second week of May. In 2010, applications opened in the last week of May. In 2011, applications opened on April 20th.

tis a bit of a lottery.

Well at least we have a one and a half month window we know it will open in.

(Pun intended, probably not a very good one)

Does it matter how early you apply for accommodation within the certain time period? I want to see some on the open day before applying, but that's not till the middle of May

No, all the applicants are randomly selected, so it doesn't matter if you apply in May or in August.

No, accommodation is not allocated on a first come first serve basis. So long as you apply before the deadline you have just as much chance as getting your first choice as everyone else.

If you apply in August, you'll have missed the July deadline.

Oh i thought the deadline was mid-August. My bad! =P
Remind me after essays/exams and I'll do a review of Redfern (where I've been living this year) in case anyone is curious about it in future years.

Hi guys, I love to party but do enjoy a bit of sleep now and then and I'm wondering if rootes is too crazy for me, although I have read of people who ask for a quieter part of Rootes and get the best of both. Anyone else in this situaition? I'm really confused about my accomm. haha
