Just to point something out for everyone - Tocil seems to now be available for first year undergraduates.

Looking at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/all/campus/residences/ it's specifying this, and the typo there suggests it's been changed recently.

Edit: Since people seem to still be reading this, it has since changed back.

It's changed again... I wish they'd make up their minds!
Any word on when we can actually apply for accommodation?

Either this week or next week from the horse's mouth.

It's not that much of a problem. There are places to leave some of your stuff. In AV we have a decently sized cupboard where you can leave things like your kitchen equipment, posters and books that you won't need over the holiday. There are also storage rooms, but these aren't so secure because everyone on your floor has access to them, so probably best not to leave anything too valuable, or else leave it in a massive, locked trunk that won't be taken.

To be honest, much of the stuff I take back, I realise I'd take back regardless. Things like my computer (including the TV I use as a monitor), books I need to work over the holiday, clothes and my games consoles would be coming with me whether I had the longer let or not. The main thing that annoys me about the short let is having to take down all my posters and so on, but it's not really a big deal, so I shouldn't complain! :P

P.S. You're going to LOVE the English Lit and Creative Writing course, it's incredible. Just saying. -biased- :3

Thanks, that's reassuring. I actually don't live in the UK, that's why it could be a problem!
Also-I'm really looking forward to starting that course, it looks awesome! Good to hear somebody confirm that!

Incidentally, if it's a 37 or 39 week let, does that actually mean you get to stay in your room during the holiday, or is it just being able to leave stuff there? Cos I heard somebody say that you couldn't actually stay yourself...

It means you can stay there as well. Be aware though that most people do leave so the place gets absolutely dead.

Don't worry about it, 4 of my 13 flatmates are international students and they don't seem to have any problems with the moving. As I say, there's lots of space for the things you don't need to bring back home.

hey guys! I am an EU postgraduate student (2012-13). Do I have any chances to be accepted in the University campus? I really want to stay at Lakeside or Heron bank, where there are en-suite rooms.
Has this opened yet? Seems late?

No, its not opened yet, it is about right in comparison with the last few years. I'm not particularly bothered when it opens cos I will apply after all the exams finish. xD

Hi I've recieved an offer from warwick and I've only just started looking at their accomodation - there are a few that I like the look of such as Jack martin or the Lakeside one. But could someone please give me more info about which accomodation(s) tends to be more quieter - Im not a drinker and I dont intend to be when I go to uni so Im really hoping to find accomodation where theres not that many party animals (!) thankyou

Since Lakeside is not available for first-year undergrads, another option would be Bluebell but it's quite expensive! I am looking for exactly the same kind of accommodation and I am not a drinker/party animal neither. Hope we will end up in the same accommodation! See ya man!

To be honest, it depends much more on the people you're with than the place you live in. I'd say that AV is relatively quiet (at least there isn't much outside noise), but in terms of your kitchen social demographic, it's totally varied. Some corridors in AV are really loud, others are totally silent with lots of non-party-type people. You put a statement about yourself on your application, so if you really want to be in a quiet area, your best chance is to say so when you apply.

To be honest, I'd actually recommend that you don't put down that you're quiet, and see how things turn out. As someone who doesn't drink (when I moved to Warwick this was for personal reasons, but now I'm also on medication that means I can't really drink anyway, so whatever your reason, don't worry about it! ) and suffers social anxiety problems - sometimes to an absolutely crippling extent - I think being around more sociable people has been really, really good for me. I don't think I would communicate with anyone if I wasn't with people more outgoing than myself. I made some great friends when I moved to Warwick, and they all drink and go out a lot, whereas I don't drink and can be very temperamental with regard to going out. (First term I went out quite a bit, second term I didn't really go out at all)

Nobody will try to force you to drink if you don't want to, and if you want some space to yourself, you can always sit in your room. If you (or anyone else on here for that matter!) is worried about being a non drinker and wants to talk about what it's like, feel free to PM me, I know I was really concerned about it before I moved in.

I can't rep you for some reason but I think that's some really good advice =). I'm a (semi) non-drinker too but seeing posts like this has always made me feel better about it! Though I'm still gonna go for Westwood XD. TEH WINDOWS!

I'm a heavy drinker. Rootes seems to fulfill my needs but I want an ensuite and not to many people around me all the time. Recommendations?

Could you clarify what you mean by "not to many people around me all the time"? Do you mean having kitchens etc shared between smaller numbers of people or do you want the communal areas to not be too crowded?

Yeah small kitchens and not sharing a bathroom and such. Basically sociable but not too much. Arthur Vick maybe?

Yes, and Jack Martin and Sherbourne also have similar numbers of people per kitchen. There's also Bluebell which has only 8 people per kitchen according to the website.
