hi, the info you've put up is really helpful but i'd still like to ask a question

i'm trying to decide between cryfield, Whitefields and possibly sherbourne

I've put rootes as number 1. I'd like to go to a sociable and outgoing halls.
I'm worried that the 30 week let at cryfield will be a disadvantage as you have to go home straight after term finishes so you can hang around the university and go out etc. in the holidays? Also Whitefields is described as houses whcih puts me off as i want a halls as similar to rootes as possible

has anyone got any advice on which is the next best halls after rootes for what i'm looking for?

thanks a lot

Deciding on five choices is so difficult! Is anyone else considering putting Sherbourne as their first choice?

I am considering but not sure yet - i want ensuite and flatstyle and i am considering bluebell but a lot of people have said that its not very social so i might take sherbourne as first choice instead

To be honest, the holidays tend to be really quiet anyway as most people go home so you're not missing much. The only real disadvantage is having to pack up your things so often.

You do get to give a description of yourself, so whichever halls you're in you can say you want to be near sociable people. One of the reasons Rootes is good for being sociable is that you can move freely between different kitchens and parts of the building without seeing locked doors. If you want that kind of environment then go for a halls that's described as 'corridors' not flats. (although I'm not sure if all flats have locked doors) I experienced that myself in Westwood and it was nice that you can see other floors within one building. A downside of that though is that food can sometimes be stolen.

I don't know exactly how sherbourne is laid out but it looks like it would also have those same locked doors like in bluebell.

The only real difference I've seen between those two styles is how 'separated' the different areas are. (eg with locked doors) Most places do consist of a corridor with bedrooms, kitchen and, depending on the halls, common room and bathrooms coming off.
First time poster so if this has been covered then sorry, now that the application forms are finally up does anyone know how long they take to fill out? Don't want to start doing it when I have a spare half an hour only to realise it's going to take 3!

10 or 15 minutes I should think.

It took me about 5 minutes, there are 8 steps and they are pretty easy. The longest step is the bit which you explain personal interests, so they can put you with similar people. But it doesn't take long...

But is bluebell really that antisocial? does anyone have experience?

Typical layout of Sherbourne is here (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b289/Paddimon/Private/TSR/LakesideII/LakesideIIFloorPlan.png)

I'd expect Bluebell and Sherbourne to have the same characteristics and features (less the double bed in Sherbourne) - security in accommodation is paramount for universities these days in order to reduce recurring costs for insurance, etc so I would be surprised if Sherbourne didn't have key card access.

With it comes the restricted movement as seen in Bluebell, unlike in the 'flats' built in the late 90s early 00s (Claycroft, Heronbank, Lakeside) which allow some free movement between flats. This is typically seen as a bad thing in terms of social life as it makes it more difficult to interact with people outside your own flat.

Is there an actual reason for that, or is it just because some genius realised ***** rhymes with white?

Lol. Anyway, just read this from OP:

"Cons: Well, it is the cheapest accommodation available and, to be frank, you get what you pay for. Although I love it, the place is a bit of a dump and Warwick seem to disregard us somewhat. Our roof leaks, the boiler breaks regularly, the oven only works on one side and for the whole of last term only 2 of 4 hobs worked. In term one we had a tiny fridge and freezer, which were both replaced with massive ones over Christmas only for the freezer to decide it didn't want to work very well (not helped by someone leaving it open overnight twice) and having to be repaired.
Additionally, as a 37 week let we had to move all our stuff out for 2 weeks over Christmas, which was a bit of a bitch. You get the top part of your cupboard to keep what you have, which isn't massive but helps. Nevertheless, it was quite annoying and I was happy when it got to Easter and we could leave our rooms however we liked.
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures at the moment (I'll take some when I get back if I remember) but the rooms are a good size; I've been told that they're above avarage compared to the rest of the University.
Overall I would reccommend Whitefields to anyone, and the Pros far outweigh the Cons for me. It must be remembered, nevertheless, that you do get what you pay for, and the place is kind of falling apart, leading to rumours (fact?) that the place is being knocked down in a couple of years so you could be the guys who finally see it off."

Doesn't sound that bad, Whitefields is now 39 weeks, not 37 as well.

Sounds like the cheap and cheerful option then, I might put it on as 4th or 5th choice, so that if I don't get one of my preferred halls at least I can consolidate myself with the fact I'm saving money
I'd advise people to go for a hall in the centre of campus i.e. not Westwood, Lakeside, Sherbourne (apparently that's going to be near Lakeside?). Cba with the walk and if you're regularly late for things, like most students end up being eventually, you'll regularly curse the walk you have to do. Whereas, people in Rootes can get anywhere on central campus in two seconds. It's not the walk itself that's annoying, it's the fact that people on central campus don't have to do it, but you do. Though, the upside of Westwood is Tesco which is cheaper than Costcutters so you'll save on your weekly shop over the year on average. Plus big rooms.

I understand that thanks, but can't you just jog or cycle?

Actually, that's another point, is it worth bringing a bike to Warwick? Do many cycle around campus or not, are there areas to lock it up and so on?
