Also are the preferences not in any order?

First years can stay in Lakeside. You'll not even really bump into any PGs. A whole block (of, ooh, about ~100 rooms?) is let out solely to first years. MAYBE the odd third year moving back onto campus as well...
Yeah but that coupled with it's distance from the centre has made it surplus to requirements.

Any advice on wether I should go Arthur Vicks or Jack Martin? They seem exactly the same in terms of facilities and location.
Right, read the thread and came to a conclusion. Mango's glowing tribute to Rootes made me move it from 2 to 1 (although I still don't know if the order makes a difference).

1. Rootes
2. Jack Martin
3. Claycroft
4. Whitefields

Sorted.

Not really.

I brought both. My plastic cup has proved extremely useful, not sure what life would have been like without it. I did use my plastic bowl and plate quite a lot too...Ceramic just have a nicer quality to them though and in a whole year I only broke one item, my beautiful pink plate. Glasses on the other hand, I started with 4 and ended with none.

Really? I made a profit on glasses. I went with none and came back with a dozen assorted pint glasses, 4 wine glasses and a couple of pitchers. Thank you Varsity :p:

just get your grades for LSE then it doesn't really matter! (i'm pulling my jealous face) lol. personally id prefer cryfield due to it being only 30 weeks, cheaper and closer to everything (although i guess this is negligible)

Totally forgot about my post so sorry for the late reply. lol yeah i really hope i get the grades for LSE but I have to prepare for every eventuality, i could easily drop a grade and end up going to Warwick.
I did end up putting Cryfield as my third choice so i'll just wait and see

After the experience of a friend attempting to take a shot glass from Varsity my thoughts were 'no thanks' :p:

This may sound like a stupid question but what's a quiet area? I mean is it an area where it is always really quiet? Are the non-quiet area always really loud and noisy?

I don't mind that much noise (I'm from a family of six) and am quite a heavy sleeper and I think I would find silence too unusual. I just wanted to know how quiet the quiet areas are and how loud the non-quiet areas are.

Lakeside- 1 of the best accomodation- in terms of room size.
Massive rooms, en suite. v v v nice, newly built- like arthur vick but even nicer.

However, quite far from the uni- not as far as westwood but about 10 min walk i would say to main campus, dependin on which block u r in.

Arthur Vick- the best accom in my opinion, 80% of my corridor were verysociable and all other corridors were as well. cleaner was reallynice as well. fairly quiet place to live- which is nice. usually people hang out in their kitchens so you can't hear anything from your bedroom. But u sometimes get people playing football along the corridors! umm.. fridge space not amazing.. altho this is the same in other accomodation- jack martin has the best fridge spaece i wd say
close to main campus altho not so close that u can hear all the union noise etc.
the only complaint i have.. altho this only applies to my corridor.. was the drains smelt soooo bad... so it stunk out your whole room

jack martin- good accom, altho av is better quality for jst a few extra pounds. the only adv is the fridge space and a bit closer to main campus than av.

claycroft- good accom, room size isnt noticably small. very similar to av but a bit smaller and no en suite. thinkit is quite expensive though?

tocil- close to main campus and right next to av. v nice rooms. not too sure about the bathrooms or kitchen though.

benefactors- very big rooms- share with another person, v nice rooms as well. cool and different, v close to main campus

cryfield- looks like a prison! rooms are very small.. kitchen is nice although they smell like seaweed! bathrooms are bad

I wouldn't go as far as massive about Lakeside rooms. They are big but nothing unusual. To a resident of Cryfield a Lakeside room would be massive but Cryfield has stupidly small rooms/

The en-suite rooms are supposed to be mostly about 15 square metres, ( http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/ en-suite accommodation/studentaccommodation/all/campus/residences/) does that include the bathroom ?

sorry double post
Reply 494
well when you're used to living in arthur vick they seem massive compared to that i guess

During summer term there was a small around of flood mainly on the roads around campus, think a bus route had to be diverted for a day or two and a friend of mine had trouble whilst driving nearby. My Rootes block was at the bottom of a slope too so all the water when it rained collected outside our buidling...goodness knows what will have been the effect there with the heavy rain of late considering that at one point last term the path disappeared and became a small river instead.

Theres been some flooding but not much really. Some of the off-campus houses have flooded though, and they had to give emergancy rooms to some people.

Have you seen leamington recently? It is flooded, and my impression of leamington is its on a slight hill going down, and I've seen pictures of just above the first river where all the roads are flooded, so it a lot below that under water?

My house is fine, but I can't imagine what people are going to be doing if their house is under water. I just hope returning 1st/2nd years don't leave it until moving in day to look into it! As wont it take months to fix some of the properties
I checked the enviroment agency website where you can see a map of flood risk areas in Leamington and it appears where I will be living shouldn't be affected. What would actually happen if you couldn't move into your house because of flood damage?
