Mini fridges aren't allowed, with the exception of cases where it's needed for medical issues. I think the issue is because of electrical concerns, as the whole block's wiring probably cannot handle the draw from mini fridges in every room. People have sneaked them in, fwiw. From personal experience, you really don't need a mini-fridge, unless you're making it into a kegerator.

Thanks, I can see the issue there. I was going to stick loads of beer in it, probably some milk too to stop people snaffling that. I'll hang onto the fridge and use it next year...

It's the latter.

Suppose 'your' bathroom was in use and the one right next to it was free, you wouldn't wait around, would you?

The flat is laid out so that (in say a 12 person flat) there are 3 bathrooms accessible from the corridor.

In practice, it's feasible to work out some arrangement that would be stuck to the majority of the time though.

Okay thanks. Do you know how many fridges/freezers there are in the average Tocil kitchen?

The Tocil flat I went to this year had 3 (at least). I dunno how many of them are fridges and how many are freezers, but they are massive. I'm talking about massive ones like in this photo of JM: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/w/images/1/14/Warwick_JM_6.jpg

JM had one fridge, one freezer of that size between 12 - if you have another one then you have more than enough.

Generally, people divide up the shelves at the beginning of term. In Westwood, on our floor, in our block, we had one compartment per person in the fridge (there were wo compartments to a shelf. I went shopping once to twice a week, at the minimum, so I found that adequate. Freezer space was divided up in about the same manner.

Hi,

I got accepted at Warwick in International Political Economy (MA). Got also an offer at Claycroft. I noticed that the room is rent until the 14th of september. Do you know if it is possible to leave it before and get refund or to rent it to another student? Because I do not think I will stay until the 14th of September 2013...

Thnaks in advance for your answer(s)!

You can't sublet rooms or get a pro-rated refund for on-campus housing if you leave before the end of your leasing period, under ordinary circumstances. See http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/gov/calendar/section2/regulations/residences for more details.

Thank you for your help!

Are you sure about that? Cause it says :

"(7) Period of Residence(a) Accommodation in halls of residence will normally be offered for a period of 30 weeks, 39 weeks or 50 weeks. This letting period cannot be amended after its commencement."

As a postgrad, you get a 50 week let for which you pay per term. If you leave in the middle of a term, you do not get a pro-rated refund for that term, unless you find a student to take your place there for the remainder of the entire lease. You cannot independently sublet your room. When are you looking at moving out?

Edit: I was partially wrong with my initial post. This post has correct info. See http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/usefulinfo/samplemaincontract2010-2011.pdf for details.

I was thinking of leaving during the summer. Do you think we have to stay on campus to work on Our final dissertation?

It can be relatively easy - depends on what you're looking for. Sign up to Unitemps - who are based in SUHQ - and they usually have a whole load of jobs available within the area. https://www.unitemps.co.uk/ and keep an eye out on the SU website for any SU jobs

Not sure about voluntary work but Warwick Volunteers might be worth a shot. They're a society on campus.

It is not neccessary but it will definitely be a lot better for you because you will be close to all the facilities (libray, etc) plus the professors.

Ok. thanks for ur help!
Has anyone ever transferred to a different hall? How long did it take for you to change halls after you'd filled in the form? How was it fitting in with your new flatmates? Do Warwick Accommodation give you a specific moving date and time?

From reading the information on various Warwick and SU pages, it seems that you have the option to switch rooms for a small administrative fee as of third week of term, although you need to find someone who wants to swap with you (unless, presumably, people drop out). There's a page that lists people wanting to switch blocks, and their current blocks, I believe.

I haven't either I think we hear back some time next week
Guys, DO NOT WORRY about not having heard back yet about campus accommodation. It is normal - they usually take quite some time. You will get accommodation though, don't fret  I would say expect to hear back next week after off campus contracts begin.
My accommodation e-mail arrived on the 8th September last year so don't worry about it :h:
