I checked the enviroment agency website where you can see a map of flood risk areas in Leamington and it appears where I will be living shouldn't be affected. What would actually happen if you couldn't move into your house because of flood damage?

I am not sure, I'm suprised the uni hasn't said anything really! But this is classic Warwick communication (anyone else find it awful for that?). Anyhow, I know a group of 5 girls whose house was under water last term, so I guess it still is or is again! But I think it can take months to fix, so they're screwed.

You'd hope the uni would provide some emergency financial aid, or at the agency would allow you to terminate the contract to sign another house.

If you get to your house and its uninhabitable there is a proceedure whereby the uni can give you accommodation.

You'll get more info about it soon i believe (cant guarantee - dont work in off campus accommodatino personally).

If you do find that you cant live in it, get hold of the union's Welfare Sabb straight away and they can get warwick to help you quickly.

I dont think the uni can help you in getting out of your contract, but they can put you up.

Surely flooding is one of the legitimate reasons for ending a contract prematurely and they would be obliged to terminate it? Anyway..mine should be fine unless the enviroment agency information is very wrong.

Am I allowed to take my bike in my room?

There are bike racks outside most if not all of the accommodation. No idea if you can take it INTO the halls (though if noone sees you you can do what you want really), but why would you need to?

I imagine not. Anyway it would take up far too much of the room!!

I don't want it to be stolen.

Cycle Lock

a cycle lock doesn't prevent the handlebar being stolen.
and apart from that it usually doesn't take much to destroy such lock, particularly if no one is watching, which i would imagine to be the case outside some student accommodation.

Outside most accomodation there are plenty of bikes. I haven't heard of any cases of bike theft, thats not to say it doesn't happen but I am not aware of it. Why would someone steal a handlebar in all seriousness? Yes it might happen but just get insurance for it. Don't try and keep it in your room because you will find yourself with a lack of space and your flatmates are likely to think you are rather odd.

Get a heavy duty lock or five.

I assume you can justify a little expense in protecting your bike. Seems to me thieves would only be after the handlebar if a ridiculous amount had been spent on said handlebar otherwise it wouldnt be worth their while.

I once got my handlebar stolen, and that was while I had two locks on the bike, and in front of my school. So I am always a bit sceptical about putting bikes in public places.

I dont think that problem really exists at most Warwick accommodatons. Many people here are pretty well off so they wont be nicking your handlebars. If youre going to leave it in Coventry, its going to be stolen. If you're leaving it outside your halls on campus,it's going to be fine.

There's CCTV evrywhere - and i mean everywhere, including outsidethe accommodation. I know for a fact that the CCTV outside rootes was trained on the bike racks outside my block.

Insurance would be a better idea than lugging i up to your room every day - especialy since if it got nicked out of your room your insurance wouldnt cover it anyway.

I was looking through studenty stuff online and I realised I forgot to apply for Warwick accommodation!

I totally forgot as its my insurance Uni, luckily I found my letter and the deadline was 31st July

I applied to:

JM
Rootes
Tocil
Claycroft

which is a bit of a strange combo, but meh.
