Yeh the F keeps throwing me off. I've never noticed my friends' rooms being numbered any differently. Oh well.

Flat 31, room F seems more likely. Not entirely sure how Tocil is numbered though, I could be wrong.

Can someone explain what the 'weekly/fortnightly test' that the first post mentions in Arthur Vick?
Original post by Nirgilis
It depends whether you're going to take your bike. If you are, then no hall is too far away, if you're walking every morning, you can do 10/15 minutes from the one's mentioned, but it's more like 25/30/35 from Lakeside and Westwood (depending on walking speed of course).

I see well then I suppose it doesn't matter which I go to. Thanks a lot

It's about the fire alarms - the post is saying that every week or two weeks they test the fire alarms so you may hear the sirens going for a few seconds.

"Please do not bring electrical appliances requiring more than 500 watts as these may overload the system. No refrigerators, kettles or
cooking equipment of any kind may be used in study bedrooms."

This is what i got from arrival instructions, the problem is I am going to bring my desktop pc which got a 650w power supply plus a monitor requiring another 60w. my pc may not use 650w but will i be forbid from using my pc at uni?

I doubt they would say anything - no-one goes around checking the stickers on the back of every appliance. It's not like a fridge where it's obvious what it is.

Ok thanks! I'm still curious as to why it has to be a morning test... surely they could do it in the afternoon when it doesn't affect anyone?

That's a good question - I'm not sure why they choose that time to test the fire alarms. Perhaps the security people are busier in the afternoons.

One thing to bear in mind though is that once a year they do a full fire drill when everyone has to go outside. These are often held at inconvenient times (e.g. 6am), presumably so that if a real fire happened at an inconvenient time then you'd still be able to get out.
Having seen the room instructions quoted above, I'm going to tentatively ask, does anyone go ahead and have a kettle in their room anyway? I was hoping to sneak one in...

I've never seen anyone use a kettle in their room. Also, there are smoke detectors - I don't know how sensitive they are but you don't want to be the one who makes everyone evacuate the building so you can have a cup of tea.

The Arthur Vick smoke detectors could be set off with the water vapour from the showers :grumble: . It's also been known that hairdryers set them off. So yeah, they can be pretty sensitive

Guys, what's my term time address? For instance if I want something posted? (By the way I'm in Jack Martin Block 1 and I am the 15th room on the ground floor.)

My boyfriend has started a phd that requires him to attend 3 different universities, one of which is Warwick. The distance between the unis is so big that he prefers to rent a room for £10 a night once or twice a week rather than take a train back. But the place he found is too far away from the actual university.

So does anyone know of any cheap places where you can take a room for 1-5 days a week and not live there permanently?

Or alternatively, if anyone has a room they don't use in their house in Warwick, you could make a little bit of money from it.

It should be something along the lines of

Room 15
Jack Martin 1
University of Warwick
Coventry
CV4 7AL (not sure but I remember having to use 7ES at one point)

Are you sure there's only 1 "room 15" in the whole of the block, because you might need your corridor/flat number too..
does anyone know what this code means? H54/RRA RRH54 D. I know i am in rootes if that helps?
where do i find out what room i got
