I distinctly remember thinking the exact same thing, and it did me no harm. I completely forgot about that until I saw this post!

Thanks for the rep! I appreciate it.. I'm only 8 points off my next shiny now!! Frustratingly close.. Anyone feel like repping me randomly to give me my beautiful little shiny green thing? Ah, little green gems, they live a life of their own and make the whole world a happier place.
What’s the deal with plug sockets and TV sockets in the rooms? Are there many places to plug stuff in or should I be investing in a large plug extension cable?!
Also I know that TV reception is said to be very poor on campus but do people still attempt to watch TV? I was thinking of getting a TV card for my laptop, will there be a TV socket to plug the computer into?
Hey, i applied for L100 Economics at Warwick, just wondering about Lakeside, unfortunately i only read these threads after i had applied for Lakeside. Is it really that bad ?

There's still potential for having a great first year, except you might have to seek it out a little more. I expect in Rootes, say, you could fall out of bed and straight into a party but with Lakeside you might have to go flat-hopping for livelier people, or perhaps organise little shindigs together.
Our resident tuor a couple of years ago said that Lakeside was " a place you come back to after a hard day to read a book and drink a cup of cocoa" but that would be putting a very broad label on over 100 people, wouldn't it?

Thanks, Sam
Sockets vary between residences, and rooms i suppose. I would definitely invest in extensions though, both for extra sockets and length of cable.
There don't tend to be TV sockets anywhere that I've hear of, people try to use aerials.

I knew 2 buildings at Lakeside that were dead, with only one guy who partied (my mate). The number of times we went over there for 'cocktail parties' that never happened... disappointing! But its ok, you make your own fun. If there really isn't ANYONE as social as you'd like, you'll meet people from your course, sports clubs and societies, so go out with them!

Thanks for this, seems like i'll be needing lots of extension sockets. Still haven't decided on the TV situation yet, there are just some programmes that cannot be missed!
Lakeside isnt bad... its lovely rooms and a posh place to live.
But remember that most people there have money, and want quiet. There's a lot of foreign student who are paying a fortune to study there so want peace.

allUC, tv-links and peekvid will become your new best friends. You dont need a tv to watch tv
TVs are usually put in kitchens by whoever on the floor was daft enough to bring one. Usually people in the kitchen will club together for the licence.
Its a far better idea as many kitchens have a wall-plug antenna so better signal.
a bit of a nerdy question...would we be allowed to play Counter Strike?
also..how many people have Xbox 360s/consoles? is it frowned upon? or a normal occurance?
thanks.
Hell yeah I was introduced to CounterStrike (1.6) last year in halls. Best $10 I've ever spent, I've played it for so many hours it's ridiculous.
Lots of people bring consoles. They might be best in the kitchen though, because it's pretty much impossible to get a TV signal in your room whereas there's a wall socket in the kitchen. Plus, it's just dang more sociable ain't it?
