Is Jack Martin very social? I really want to socialise, so Rootes is definitely going to be my first or second choice, but I also would like an ensuite and was curious about JM.

Everywhere has social and unsocial areas (yes, even Rootes), so it doesn't really matter what you put down so long as you say you're sociable in your personal statement. Rootes, having the most rooms of any hall on campus, simply has more sociable people, even if the proportions with other halls are roughly the same, due to numbers.

However, I do realise I haven't answered your original question . Jack Martin is a very nice place, yes. It has a more sociable layout than Bluebell and Sherbourne (you can access every kitchen) and has a friendly rivalry with Arthur Vick (which is only a little bit more expensive, but you get a decent sized common room as well). The rooms are an okay size, the kitchen is also an okay size and it's well situated. I don't have much to say against it!
Is it true that they're making bluebell more easily accessible? So the key card can open all main doors inside building rather than just your own flats doors to make it more sociable?

Hello to everyone!! Don't know if it is related to accommodation, as all halls are self-catered, but let's give it a try: is there some one who knows how much does it costs the food a whole year, or a week? I would really appreciate as I want to know what should I expect from having the freedom to choose

depends how much money you have, some go as low as £15-£20 but I personally will spend around £40
I am tossing up between Jack Martin and Bluebell...which one would people say is the best one to plump for?
Depends on what your priorities are . Bluebell has very little benefit over Jack Martin other than it's newer . So, if you're willing to fork out slightly more for slightly newer facilities (I won't say 'better' as I simply don't know) then Bluebell's your answer! If you feel you could put the extra money to good use and don't need the extra holiday time, then Jack Martin's preferable

I spend about £25 a week on food, and that allows me to eat decent quality food every week. You may need to add on an extra £10-15 if you're planning on eating out once a week or so
The biggest difference is AV has a common room attached to a kitchen, whilst JM has nicer kitchens but common rooms much further away. So it is easier to fall into not being very sociable in JM, but the kitchen facilities are miles better. Personally I'd choose AV.
Is bluebell worth £6000? I mean it looks amazing from pictures, double bed, big room, amazing ensuite etc and you can stay there for 39 weeks instead of 30....but is it really worth all that money, im deciding if I should chose it or not, and the fact the key cards can open more doors is swaying me towards it plus it's the closest to gibbet hill where my lectures will be

Well, do you want all the things you've outlined, or will you put the money you save to better use elsewhere in a trade off for slightly less-nice halls? . That's the question to ask once you've considered whether your bank account will even manage in the first place
