depends how much money you have, some go as low as £15-£20 but I personally will spend around £40

Depends on what your priorities are :dontknow: . Bluebell has very little benefit over Jack Martin other than it's newer  . So, if you're willing to fork out slightly more for slightly newer facilities (I won't say 'better' as I simply don't know) then Bluebell's your answer! If you feel you could put the extra money to good use and don't need the extra holiday time, then Jack Martin's preferable :yep:

I spend about £25 a week on food, and that allows me to eat decent quality food every week. You may need to add on an extra £10-15 if you're planning on eating out once a week or so :yep:

I forgot to mention, I will use the Warwick Card, so.... the costs are the same for food?:colondollar:

Eating@Warwick? You can only use that on campus in the cafes/bars and in Costcutter.

Go food shopping at Tesco in Cannon Park instead, it is a lot cheaper and you have a much better range of products to choose from.

Eating at Warwick will give you discounts at any café on campus. So if you want to buy a sandwich instead of making one, you will get 10% off. This discount does not apply to costcutter however. Inevitably, whenever you buy pre-made food, it turns out more expensive than if you'd have made it yourself, so it would definitely add to the cost :yep: . The minimum amount you could spend on food (so my £25 for example) is for home-cooked (or made in the case of sandwiches) food every day, for breakfast, lunch and dinner :h:

Hi! I s anyone thinking of applying to Heronbank? I think it will be my first choice!

Hey, I've firmed Warwick and I've been looking at accommodation. I really liked the look of Arthur Vick until I heard a lot of stuff about it being really unsociable. Is this true? :s-smilie: Should I look at JM instead?

How likely is it that you'll get into one of your top three preferences? Or is it really unlikely to tell? I'm going to be putting Westwood, Cryfield and Rootes in that order. The reason I ask is because I really don't want to spend more than the prices of those three on accommodation. I'd much rather use that money for other pleasures. It's extremely annoying that there is such a large jump in accommodation prices with the next cheapest being Heronbank at £122, so a £31 difference from Rootes and Westwood.

I think it's pretty safe to say you'll be in Westwood so don't worry.

Every accommodation block has both sociable and unsociable areas, so there will be unsociable areas wherever you go.

Arthur Vick has been newly refurbished in block 2, making the kitchens and common rooms absolutely massive (if you're lucky enough to get that block). However, there's very little to distinguish between the halls.

Any of those in your top 3 will be fine. Rootes and Westwood have amongst the most rooms on campus, so if you don't get either of them as your choices, you have extremely bad luck!

Block 1  I'd go as far to say as we have the best kitchen set-up in all of campus

Ah yes, my apologies :hat2: . They were absolutely massive  . I lived in block 3 with standard kitchens, so when I walked into block 1 over Easter, I'm sure I could hear an echo

Yeah a few people have said that. I think I'm gonna go for AV. Thanks for your help

Gah I still can't decide on accommodation (although I have a while, I'd much rather decide now and stress about revision more haha!).
I understand that the social life/loudness of halls depends on what you describe yourself as in your application, however which halls are generally the most social, except Rootes? (I much prefer ensuite).

The bathroom facilities in Rootes are pretty good. But westwood is stalls which can be weird. =/

In all honesty, everyone seems to find the concept of sharing a bathroom pretty crap. But you get used to it so fast and it really isn't an issue! (and it saves a lot of money)
I'm in Cryfield & my block is really sociable! As long as you write on your application you enjoying socialising regularly you should be fine!

What is this application where you describe yourself? What is it for and when do you do it???

As far as I can remember it was when you apply for accommodation! It just helps give Warwick Accommodation a brief idea of the kind of people you want to be living with so you're more likely to be happy with your halls! Though it's not guaranteed that you'll get exactly what you ask for, a common theme for my friends in halls is sociable and into sport

I mean Rootes will be one of my choices, it's just that if I could, I'd much prefer just having my own bathroom and not feeling rushed or just generally a little paranoid, I like being able to take time and have my own little space (probably because I'm used to this at home, I even get annoyed sharing with my sister because of the state she leaves things in, I couldn't imagine what a bathroom would look like after several people). So is there any other hall you'd recommend?

I'd say probably Jack Martin :yep: Arthur Vick is pretty similar and these two are the cheapest en-suites

That's a fair point, although I haven't found it that bad myself. One of the advantages of having bathrooms shared between a lot of people rather than just one person is that you never have to worry about how long you're taking - people can always go somewhere else and never have to wait. In a large building, you even have the facilities from other floors/corridors available. Similarly, if a room isn't in a satisfactory state, you can just use the next one along. They're also cleaned more often to account for more people using them (I think it was about every weekday in Westwood).

As I say, Warwick Accommodation is filling each hall with sociable AND unsociable people. Therefore, the concept of sociable halls is a little bit old-fashioned. As long as you tell Warwick you want to be with sociable people, then you will be put with them! Based on that, then statistics say that the halls with the most rooms will have the most sociable people and hence be the most sociable halls.

However, saying all that, sociability does tend to increase with mobility. Therefore don't place yourself in halls which have individually-locked flats. However, this was very much last year's problem. Places like Bluebell and Sherbourne are now (apparently) much easier to move around.

It's just a short questionnaire for Warwick acommodation to describe your preferences. They will ask you whether there's any medical considerations, whether you want single-sex or mixed halls, whether you want a quiet room or not etc. Right at the end of the form is a box which just says 'describe yourself' where you put a little bit about yourself and they'll match you up based on that. As I say constantly, don't describe yourself, describe the people you most want to be with :yep:
