Maybe Westwood would be a good option, it is a short walk away from central campus but everyone on here who lives there seems to love it and it is undersubscribed.

Think it might heightened the greatness of this thread even furthur if there was some kind of guide to what to expect in relations to feature in the rooms and the kitchens...
Please

Becase I'm started to wonder what kind of stuff I need to bring up.
Like: a duvet?, cutlery?, glasses?, padlock for that locker thing some rooms have?

etc.

Thanks a lot.
well i know that if you look on the warwick acccomodation website, it tells you some of this information. for example, rootes, it has a dirty black cross next to "duvet"- hence i'll bring my own

:ditto: great idea, I was wondered about this as well. Something really trivial was do the noticeboard things we get have pins in them already?

Also I was wondering am I allowed to bring my own computer chair because I know some accommodation contracts state you cant add your own furniture and stuff.

Thanks in advance

Is it true we arent allowed mini fridges in the rooms?

I also vaguely remember reading on here we get insurance on all the items in our rooms. True? Im optimistic
Metropolitan
Well this is what it says on TimesOnline about Warwick:

I dunno if all items would be insured and for what though :\

You can read the policy here: http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/warwick

EDIT: the link from that page to the policy wording and certificate seems to be dead but I found this elsewhere on the site: http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/policydocs/blockhalls/HH1115%20-%20Uni%20of%20Warwick%20Cert%202007%20V2.pdf and http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/policydocs/student_accommodation.pdf

You're not technically allowed mini-fridges in the rooms, but this doesn't stop people - whether you get asked to remove them comes down to the discretion of the cleaner or tutors (should they happen to see them) - in the case of the person in my hall that had one, they never said a word about it.

Insurance - I'm pretty certain all items in your room are insured, including your laptop. This wouldn't apply if you left your room unlocked and something was stolen, however. So the insurance in itself is fairly limited.

If you're living on campus, endsleigh insurance isnt that expensive (mine I think was about £35 in my first year covering my laptop as well). And it even covers you if you do something like leave your room unlocked/windows open which not many insurance policies do as far as I'm aware. Check this up though.

I think every room has a lamp, yes. Rootes did at any rate.

Well not that many people claim so I think they'd actually be making a lot of money!
Can someone please give me a list of what's provided for us in our rooms and kitchens? I've looked on the Warwick website but all it says is basic things like a kettle, ironing board etc. Surely the kitchens have basic things like can openers right? And rooms have bedside lamps?

A list of stuff people took with them to Uni would also be of huge help and rep will be distributed!!!

No... the kitchens do not have can openers or any kind of utensils at all.

They have kettles, microwaves, fridges/freezers, toasters and cookers. You will need to bring all your own cutlery, crockery, utensils, pans, tea towels etc.

There is plenty of cupboard space in the kitchens.

The bedrooms have a lamp, bed, desk, drawers, wardrobes, chairs and some have sinks (depends on residence). They have bed linen, but many only have blankets, so if you want a duvet you'll need to bring one and sheets for it.

I'd say you need:

Plates, bowls, tupperware,
Cutlery
Can opener
Corkscrew (v useful!)
Sharp knife
Chopping board
Tea towels
Foil
Cling film
Baking trays
Frying pan
Saucepans
Cups

Duvet (if you want one)
Computer (if you have one)
Toiletries (and a bag if youre sharing a bathroom)
Towels
Coat hangers!!!
Extension lead (you get limited plugs under the desk)
Ethernet cable (for internet)
Blu tack
Home touches (posters, pictures, cuddly toys etc lol)

I think thats a pretty definitive list, but im sure i missed stuff lol.

I'd take a long ethernet cable too by the way. I arrived and found that my desk was on the opposite side of the room to the network connection point and I had to wait days until I could buy a cable long enough to trail around the room. Lots of people had the problem, bringing cables far too short for the stupid rooms.

I second that, despite being a complete nerd :P I forgot to bring one altogether. Arrived a week early and was living in westwood for my sca training so bought one from copy shop and all was fine. Then the week came to an end, moved into whitefields and sure enough it was nowhere near long enough, had to order one from screwfix direct in the end.
