Can anyone give me some advice on deciding between Arthur Vick and Heronbank? I don't neeeeed the 39 week rent but it's definitely attractive. What are the other main differences?

If possible, I'd suggest going and having a look. You can always find somebody willing to let you in to have a look around.

Places like Rootes have individual 'rooms' which have a toilet and a shower/bath (and a mirror, yes) in. There's 3 of them to a corridor.

And a corridor is 12-19 people who share the same kitchen? So there's potentially 3 "rooms" between 19 people?

Surely that ratio means that from 7-9am things become awfully hectic?

Sorry I'm just slightly worried. I might quite like to apply to Rootes but not if showering is some frantic 5 minute rush every day.

LOL you can tell you are not a university student yet, in a good way

I don't think you should worry about that. All my friends in Rootes have never ever mentioned any of these issues and are really very happy.

What would generally happen is that people tend to use the facilities at different times. In the rare event that all of the facilities are in use at once then you have more facilities to use throughout the building.

One way of thinking of it is like this. Suppose you have a street full of houses, each with 5 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. In any particular house, you might occasionally get multiple people wanting to use the bathroom at once. However if you were allowed to use the bathrooms from nearby houses then it's likely that one of the bathrooms nearby is not in use, hence solving the problem.

Hi

I'm gonna be doing french studies in September. What would be the best halls for me, close enough to get to my lectures and all  I am also really interested in doing sport so i would look into getting a gym membership as well. I would like an ensuite and I was looking at Bluebell and Sherborne cos they seem like the nicest? What is your view?

thanks

Frenchie here too! When I visited on the open day, the languages department looked to be in the centre of the campus so everything's equidistant.

That's a link to a map of the campus and will show you where everything is. Sherbourne and Bluebell may be nice but because they're new builds they're on the edge of campus so you may want to take that into consideration. I've decided to go for Heronbank and Arthur Vick, but that's more due to financial reasons.

Hope that helps and maybe see you at uni

Most courses don't have lectures/seminars 9-5 or anything like that - your schedule will be a lot more flexible than it was at school. So you'll find that you have different start times each day, and the other people in your halls will do too. In practice you probably won't have to wait often for a shower, or for very long.

I currently live in Westwood, in the same block as the guy on the previous page. And at the start of the year there was 26 people on my floor (down to 22 now) and we have 3 showers. I have not once waited, I get straight in every morning, very rarely is there only 1 left either.
Hey guys! I'm planning on studying biomedical science starting October at Warwick and when I was there for the offer holding day someone told me that one of the buildings had en-suites with a bath...which is a really attractive option  but I've forgotten the name of the building, could some one let me know please? Otherwise can someone please recommend something for me? It has to be en-suite! Haha, thank you in advance!

Arthur Vick, Jack Martin and Heronbank all have baths. Lakeside does as well, but I don't think it's available for first years in 2013/14.

Hi everyone :awesome: I'm hoping to study law so could you suggest ensuite accomodations closest to the law buildings? Is Bluebell close? Thank you!

Here is the map of campus - most of the law lectures/seminars would be in the buildings on library road, and many of the halls (including Bluebell) are roughly the same distance from it.

To add to Mouse Potato, Bluebell may be worth taking a look at, it's definitely en-suite but I'm not too sure if baths are there. It's also one of the closest accommodations to Gibbet's hill, so I'd highly recommend looking there!

I'm currently doing the Biomedical Science course there at the moment (second year exams are next week), so if you have any questions or queries I'd be happy to help

Accommodation has just opened for undergraduates so I'm looking to fill out my form at some point today. My question is, what sort of things would I need to put to be considered a viable candidate for Bluebell/Sherbourne? Is there anything you can say to help with that? Also, how long does it take the university to get back to applicants with an offer of accommodation?
What should I put on the 'brief description of yourself' part of the application? I've worked out approximately what times I go to bed and get up (medium) but I have no idea whether to say quiet or lively, and I'm not sure what types of interests to write down. My interests are quite geeky/sciency but that doesn't mean I want to be with your stereotypical scientists!
I'm also quite quiet myself but I am sociable and want to be around sociable people who go out and party, but not people who will be loud all night when I have things on the next morning!

Any advice?

I'm hoping for Rootes or Westwood.

The halls you go in would be determined by a computer algorithm so you would need to put those as your top choices. I don't know the exact algorithm they use so I couldn't say how your other choices would affect this - just put down those other halls which would be the next-best to your preferred ones. The personal description would be used to allocate your room within the halls that you are assigned.

When I applied, we found out which halls we had in early September.

You may as well mention all of that in your description. They would probably be able to put you in a group with other people with a mixture of personalities. Also, if you get into your preferred halls then it would be easy to get to know people on other floors if you don't get on with the people nearby.
