No... the kitchens do not have can openers or any kind of utensils at all.

They have kettles, microwaves, fridges/freezers, toasters and cookers. You will need to bring all your own cutlery, crockery, utensils, pans, tea towels etc.

There is plenty of cupboard space in the kitchens.

The bedrooms have a lamp, bed, desk, drawers, wardrobes, chairs and some have sinks (depends on residence). They have bed linen, but many only have blankets, so if you want a duvet you'll need to bring one and sheets for it.

I'd say you need:

Plates, bowls, tupperware,
Cutlery
Can opener
Corkscrew (v useful!)
Sharp knife
Chopping board
Tea towels
Foil
Cling film
Baking trays
Frying pan
Saucepans
Cups

Duvet (if you want one)
Computer (if you have one)
Toiletries (and a bag if youre sharing a bathroom)
Towels
Coat hangers!!!
Extension lead (you get limited plugs under the desk)
Ethernet cable (for internet)
Blu tack
Home touches (posters, pictures, cuddly toys etc lol)

I think thats a pretty definitive list, but im sure i missed stuff lol.

Thanks for this, clearly I am mistaken as to what the rent for our rooms actually goes on, can't believe they don't provide you basic stuff like can openers! Just stayed in a few hostels in Canada, price for the room was soo cheap compared to being at Uni, and the kitchens were fully equipped!!

Looks like I’ll be hitting the shops again to buy yet more stuff, totally forgot about a bottle opener!

Keep the list coming if you remember something important!

When you witness the state some people let thier own kitchen items get to and the way they treat them you will understand exactly why the university doesn't provide such items in kitchens.

Most uni halls dont provide kitchen equipment. I heard that one of the welsh ones does... but hardly any others will.

You have to live off campus in your second year anyway so youll have to buy all this stuff then anyway. Might as well have it now.

A fun trip to ikea for everyone. Its funny going in september as there are so many students like me their parents scabbing every last thing they can :P

its fine, as long as you have ur own basic set of pots, pans, plates and cutlery, people tend to share stuff.

My essential tip: get a Wok. Also, visit the chaplaincy in week 2 (i think), as they have a second-hand sale of all the stuff people left in their kitchens at the end of last year! I picked up my beautiful huge Wok for £1.50, and everyone used it! Bargain of the year, that was.

Do you keep stuff like that in your rooms or just in the kitchens. Not that i wont be trusting my flat mates... :ninja:

Well in my kitchen, we started with things in the kitchen, but then our cleaner, better known as satan, started locking all our things away, so we ran out of stuff, so people started using other people's stuff without asking - which was ok - but then they'd leave it out and not wash up and it would get locked away too, which the owner was obv not happy about! So for that reason some of us, including me, kept all kitchen stuff in our rooms, and loaned it out only to people we could trust, when asked.

The worst one is milk. Buy milk at your peril. It will disappear faster than a mug of water in the Sahara.

Do the normal cleaners (eg not 'satan') lock your things away if you dont wash up az? :p: Its a wonder any student has anything left if they do haha. Is there no chance of bribing them with a cup of tea or something?
Reply 572
No not all do mate, but I've heard of others doing it, but there are some who remove them but then never lock the door so you can just get it back, and some who could be bribed. Unfortunately, if you offered Satan a cup of tea she'd assume it had rat poison in it. Then again, it probably would have...

I rate Creative speakers.

I don't really rate the Shins. Well, they're ok. Better than a lot of crap around at the moment. And at least they're not new rave. *shudders*

whats considered new rave

and what do you think about people such as Bryan Greenberg, Brett Dennen, Five for Fighting, Joshua Radin etc?
Reply 576
What, Dylan-esque singer/songwriters? Well I support the genre as I am one myself, but I'm afraid I've never been keen on Dylan.

New rave = klaxons, css, lcd soundsystem, etc. unfortunately daft punk tends to get put under this as well, which is a shame cos theyve been around for ages and rock.

hahaha :p: it sounds like she could have done with some though  Is this their special cleaner cupboard or one in your kitchen, because if they locked it in your own kitchen that is just rubbing it in your face haha. They'll never take my new wooden spoon from me anyway
Reply 578
She locked it in the linen room,a few doors down the corridor. We considered breaking the door down once, when the entire kitchen equipment of 18 people left to us, in total, was 1 spoon and a plate. That was it. What they did shouldnt have even been allowed! We couldnt eat!
