Anyone has numbers on this? or a rough idea?

It would be interesting to know how many rooms there are, how many people apply, drop out and get allocated.

Some of that data is very easily obtainable :yep:

For the 12/13 year:

Entrants: 3,663
Rooms for first years: ~4,000
Drop out rate: 5%

The actual applicants you could probably find off UCAS, or I can go data compiling tomorrow. It's just that it's 2am and bed time

The fact that they had to bring Benefactors back for you guys surprises me a lot. I think the university is struggling with too many admissions through clearing and adjustment (so will have more than 3,700 entrants this year), and got their predictive numbers wrong :erm: . Unfortunately, this data won't be available till January :sadnod:

How do I know if I got into "New Rootes" or "Old Rootes" ? It just says :
Accommodation: Rootes
Address: Rootes, The University of Warwick, Gibbet Hill Road, Coventry, CV4 7ES.

And what are the differences between those two?

EDIT* In "Inventory " says J-P, what does it mean?

J-P is the new rootes area, so you're gonna be there. A-I is the old rootes. I'm not too sure about the differences but it seems like the new rootes rooms are bigger and it's quieter over there

EDIT> the letters stand for the blocks. We don't know which specific block we're in yet.

Ahh okay thanks. At least some good news lool.

I was just wondering about shared bathrooms. So if it is shared by 6 how do people manage it in the mornings? Don't most people shower / shave ( for guys  ) etc? Everybody would need like 20-30 min..

I think some corridors have like 19 people in them lol. Consider yourself lucky if you've got 6. And I guess different people may wake up at different times?

Woah, just got a shared room in Westwood! Don't really mind though, I'm just happy to be getting on campus! I was really worried there!
I wish they would tell me my roommate before arrival, however. At least so I could facebook the person and hi, so it wasn't such an awkward first meeting. :erm:

Generally what would happen is that people would tend to use them at different times so it wouldn't be too much of a problem. And in somewhere like Rootes you would be able to use the facilities in a nearby corridor in the event that all of yours are in use.

You're assuming people shower before lectures/even go to lectures in the first place...  . From everybody that I've spoken to, waiting has never been a problem/only been a minor problem at the start of term when people have a lot of motivation :yep: . If worst comes to the worst, just get up 20 minutes earlier :yep:

Not at this stage, unfortunately. With the amount of people that have been assigned to sharing this year, you will need to wait for a few weeks at least :erm: . You will be able to request a single room once people decline their accommodation contracts and start dropping out. From what I can recall, everybody who was sharing over the last few years (except those in Benefactors) has been assigned individual rooms by the middle of term 2 :yep:

I just got exactly the same email and thought the same, haha. I applied really late so I was worried I wouldn't be on campus.

I'm a little worried about sharing with someone though - what if one of us is out late for example? Or you want to get changed or whatever (I guess you have to go to the shared bathroom?) Hmmm.

You generally just have to be very courteous of each other  . So long as you respect each other, and your values, and your privacy when needed, it shouldn't be too much of a problem :h: . You end up working something out :yep: .

It may turn out that one, or both, of you are out most of the time anyway, so it may be nothing like you're imagining it :h: . The possibilities are endless at the moment! . Just turn up, be polite and friendly, make an effort to lay out some ground rules (such as ''try be considerate when falling into bed after 5am  '' ) and compromises, and it won't be a problem :nah:

I also got a shared in sherbourne and I have already tried calling up haha you will have to wait until the 14th of October now to request a transfer!

Hmm alright, thanks for the reply Nirgilis.

I read somewhere you have to pay £35 to transfer - does that apply to those in WW Sharing too? Thanks!
Reply 6135
I've just called them up - been told the same thing. what are your thoughts on sharing? I don't want to sound rude but I am quite a reserved person, Like going out but not drinking. Just worried about the other person being what I am not?

To be honest, I doubt very much that many people will be given the opportunity to transfer. First, because the university is incredibly pushed for space as it is, hence the need to put so many more people in shared rooms. Second, almost everyone will be putting themselves forward in the transfer list who have shared rooms, the list will be endless.

I'm in the Benefactors (which is a pretty nice shared room(s) to be honest. I just can't handle being without solitude 24/7... would rather defer my entry and try again for a single room

Do you know if shared westwood rooms have two desks? Otherwise, things may get awkward.
I had the impression when signing up that Sherbourne was single rooms only? If so, I suppose it's a temporary arrangement until they make space ...

That's what I thought. Anyone out there know if Sherbourne has shared accommodation? Really don't mind if it is temp?
